Alexander had a lot of luck involved though... Apart from the disorganized bands of levied peasants he faced... Well... That's pretty much all he ever faced to be honest... I meant proper generals who had teh 1337 like Hannibal or Caesar. *Prepares for the incoming flames for saying Alexander was lucky*

Alexander faced many different enemies, not just the Persian armies (which, indeed, where mainly peasants, but also contained many good units): Greeks, Scyths, Indians, mountain tribes from all over the continent. Are you saying these were all peasants?Originally Posted by Dayve

Well he is right to say Alexander was lucky, but so was every other succesful general. I'd also say the Persian Royal Army wasn't a mob of peasants, especially the cavalry wing.
