    Angry Differens versions of MTW

Hi there. - I'm new on this site.

Have played MTW for some years now and have had a lot of fun.

But as I'm looking at all the interesting threads on this lovely site, I begin to wonder. Is there a newly developed version of MTW? I just read the some guy is playing as the papal states....?? In my version that’s not possible.
An other question regarding versions of this fabulous game: What is the XL mod?

If someone could spare a few moments to enlighten me about the versions and such, I would greatly appreciate this. And – of course – is some of the new versions available via patches or do I have to bye “a new game”?

To clarify the version I’m playing, here are the playable factions.
    Danes
    Brits
    French
    German (Holy Roman)
    Spanish
    Polish
    Italians
    Byzantines
    Turks
    Egyptians
    Almohads
Russians (Only on high and late)

    Factions not possible to play.
    Hungarians
    Sicilians
    Papal states
Schwietzerland (Only in Late – if I remember correctly)
    Golden Horde (Arrives during high)
    Aragones

Hope this clarifies what I have on my machine at present time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

And again – It’s great to have found the site – a lot of really god campaign stories and tactical considerations to think about.

    Regards
    Zaio.

Okay, I'll try to help out.

From the sound of it you have MTW original. There is an expansion pack out called Viking Invasion (VI for short) which adds a new campaign as well as allows the player to play as the sicilians, hungarians, and aragonese.

Now, there are a couple of community mods out there such as XL mod which work with Viking Invasion 2.01. XL mod adds new units, new factions, unlocks unplayable factions, and adds a couple of new map territories.

    Hope this helps.

    Welcome to the forums Zaio!

From this, it sounds like you have the original. I suggest buying the Vikings Invasion expansion pack, which add new factions, new units and a new campaign.

With the VI expansion pack, you can add some super mods like the XL Mod or BKB's Super Mod 2.0, which are available for download in the Engineers Guild section of this forum(the big forum, not the Entrance Hall)

Also, you can wait till the end of this year, when CA is going to release Medieval TW II.

    Hope it helps!!

(I'm the one that's playing the papal states and posting it on the org.)

I bought my copy of VI on eBay. It costed me €12,5 with shippingcosts (or whatever you call it) and I haven't regretted it yet. I bought it mainly to play mods (as vanilla MTW doesn't have to many mods) and it was well worth it.

If you are in the US, you can find the Battle Collection in Amazon for $19.99.

I'm not sure if you will be able to track down a copy of Viking Invasion since it hasn't been released as a stand alone in a while. Your best bet would be to buy the new Battle Collection which includes the original and the expansion. Its about $20 and your local EBgames should have at least one copy. If you can't find it at a local retailer, then amazon.com or ebay should have a copy.

Yeah, I often use Amazon.com as eBay isn't that safe.

Or, the computer shops chain which has both Battle Collection and VI separately. (at least here in Romania)

You should check the local computer shop also. It can't cost you more than 15-20$ the VI expansion and 25-30 the Battle Collection.
