Default Iran Launches Operation Great Prophet

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,190340,00.html
Anyone see any video on this. That torpedo was hauling ass.
I love the Name for the operation.... "Great Prophet"
I'm sure the prophet would have loved it as well being such a peace lover and all you know.
I wonder when is the European Union and the UN going to make a speech strong enough or write a letter harsh enough to stop Iran from its ways?

I'm intrigued DD. In your opinion, do the Iranians have any right to prepare to defend themselves at all? Nuclear I can understand. But not even conventional weapons?

Sure they have a right to defend themselves but they have to realise that making comments about the Hallicaust being made up, Israel has no right to exist, etc, then I believe they should be more responsible than naming an operation based on religious fever. Maybe the United States should launch a operation called "Jesus' Fist" in the Persian Gulf. If you can't see this a provocation, then I can't help you understand. But I still love the name of their operation, its very reveiling regardless to what some would have us believe about certain beliefs.

I dont see the point? Every nation has military excercises, is Iran an exception?

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran said it successfully tested another new torpedo, the latest weapon unveiled during war games in the Gulf.

On Sunday, Iran announced it had tested a different torpedo, the new high-speed "Hoot"

Iran hardly makes a secret of it's ambitions, and Dave is right, how hard can it be to take a hint. Iran is a hostile nation, and they feel rather good about being it because we are soooooo prepared to agre- I mean talk. Iran wants to be a power, and we kindly let them become it, untill a point where negotiation is a necesity instead of a hobby for carrotmuchers.

They're doing some very nice reverse engineering on what appears to be Russian weaponry. They seem to have launched the fastest underwater rocket yet, today or yesterday. I don't know its Iranian name, but it seems to be an upgraded from of the Russian Shkvol missile, a thing that travels through water at around 300 km/h, making it impossible for ships to avoid the thing. However, as opposed to a torpedo, its unguided. Plus, it's launching platform and relatively bulky size makes it easy to detect (not that interesting really, if its coming at you with 300 km/h).

They also recently, in concordance with this military exercise, launched a MIRV (sp?) of their own. According to Iranian press (state TV, okay) it is undetectable by radar since its warhead splits off into different rockets and confuses the radar system. Me? I highly doubt it; it sounds like empty big talk by Iran, produced by the mounting threat from outside.

Personally, I'm a bit worried about Iran. The nation has been showing off its military all the time, constantly upping the ante a bit and pulling new cards, in an apparent attempt to dissuade invaders and the like. I'm also not liking the fact that within three to five years, the Shahab-5 can reach Paris...

I am sure Iran sees america as a hostile nation too, I mean who was the last of the two of them to invade? And I assume the US is doing a lot of testing (missile defense, excersises etc).

So, why is it such a big issue? A torpedo...

These days, any(thing/one) starting with an Ir is hostile and enemies of global harmony.

edit: love the machi quote, we all know he was real excellent at building a state...

How on Earth can you manage to misspell "holocaust"?

Also, an operation called Jesus' Fist would amuse me, because unless I have a different bible then everybody in America, Jesus preached non-violence.

And so did Muhammad. Only under the strictest rules, and after a long period of abuse, did he finally allow the Lesser Jihad.

    .
its not actually that easy to spell....

i dont see anything wrong with iran testing weapons, just about every country does anyway, the name is also okay, because weapons are used in war to try and "win" a peace, so if the profet represents peace, then the weapon is being used to try to find peace (kind of warped logic, but heh )

Funny thing is, operation Enduring Freedom was originally slated for the public as Infinite Justice, but it was renamed because some allies of the US found it offensive.

I can't read Dave’s posts, but here is my two cents nonetheless.

From IRNA the official news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran:

…One of the 'European' cartoons depicted Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with a bomb in the form of turban, with a lit fuse and the Islamic creed written on it. What is it trying to convey? Perhaps the message is that the Muslims have developed a violent attitude toward the world.

    Also from IRNA:

…The response would be given by surface, under-surface and air defence units and from Iranian islands and coastal regions, said spokesman of the ongoing joint maritime wargame, dubbed as 'The Great Prophet' (PBUH), Rear Admiral Mohammad-Ebrahim Dehqani.
