225 Winter continued
Battle for Osca
Sacred band in action for the first time since I took over the campaign. Slingers can fire from the road, through the temple and at the enemy in the plaza. The enemy react to the missiles by running out...and into the waiting spears.
----
The campaign map of Spain. Strong Gaul are still around.
----
Battle for Numantia
Our cavalry army initiate the assault which is immediate as they have elephants so dont need spies nor seige equipment. Our infantry army had arrived moments before...with insufficient movement points to attack itself..but it can participate as reinforcements in the cavalry initiated assault.
Peasants in open formation absorb the missile fire.
After a few rounds of stones from the slings to weaken the defending Spanish Mercenaries I decide to send in the Elephants. Closely followed by cavalry.
The benefit of headbutting (or ramming) the wall rather than the gate. You can open the gate and get a second entrance for the price of one. Here cavalry use the gate and help trap the enemy.
----
So that was two SPanish towns captured in that turn. But the western city, Scallabis, will riot for the second turn, so will rebel over end of turn.
In Italy nothing much happened. Consolidating gains and trying to control public order.
----
Over end of turn
- we were attacked by pirates near Tarentum and sank them.
- we did indeed lose Scallabis to a rebellion
- three other cities riot as expected. Lost 2 spies in those riots.
- cash pile leapt as I am gaining more income than I am building new units.
- we are now the leading faction
- Gaul are marching on Cordoba. I had hoped they would fall back after losing two cities.
This is the position in Spain:
- One city has rebelled.
- Two others riot
We have a choice of initiating a bridge battle against better infantry.
Should I go for it ? What tactics would you employ?. In addition to the stack south of the city we have the faction heir general and a peasant in the city. We have one sacred band and our special elephants perhaps two turns march away. But I dont want to wait nor risk those elephants.
