Since I know the direction that this will take with many of you, allow me to reiterate that I believe we should expand opportunities for legal immigration to the world, and not just Mexico. Being next to us should not qualify you for a pass anymore than if you were from Sri Lanka. Criminal behavior should not be rewarded. Others have been waiting for a very long time.

Unfortunately, we're likely to never get rid of the 10+ millions illegal immigrants entirely. Eventually, we'll have to think of some way to deal with them, but there's absolutely no reason to be falling all over ourselves to do so now when the floodgates are still open and thousands more still pour into our country. Stop the flow of illegals first. Later we can talk about how to handle the one's here now.

That article summed up my feelings on the cultural side of the issue perfectly. I mean exactly. Word for word, I am unable to articulate the point as well as this guy just did. Thank you for bringing that to the table Crazed Rabbit.

This article certainly shows the cultural side, but we need to remember that this is an economic issue first and a cultural issue second. They are both important, but the economic side comes first. Mexican foreign workers depress wages for the lowest Americans by taking jobs at unfair wages offered by exploitative employers. They consume more in social services than they contribute in paltry sales tax. Their American citizen children make the family eligible for welfare and food stamps, as well as a myriad of additional poverty-related benefits like grants, in-state tuition, special medical insurance, and etc. The high birth rates contribute to additional hard ship and poverty, resulting in a cycle of ignorance and crime that costs untold sums in law enforcement resources, fire and ambulance services, as well as loss of life and property damage. They crowd our schools, our roadways, our hospitals, and our jails. They overload our court systems, our emergency rooms, our state governments, our education funds, and our public goodwill.

John McCain insulted every American when he told our laborers that they could not do hard labor even for $50 an hour. He said we were incapable and I have lost all faith in him.

The time has finally come. The debate is finally happening. The country is speaking on this seriously for the first time and perhaps our pathetic little voices will be heard in one collective roar.
