I think the maggots work because the only eat dead or decaying flesh, so when their work is done the wound is composed of healthy flesh with a good chance to regenerate or at least heal over.Originally Posted by discovery1

They are supposed to be really good at this sort of thing. No human can easily cut out all the dead flesh leaving only healthy, but maggots can. Cunning little things.
