Ahhh... the race to Kiev! Gentlemen, start your emmissaries!

note: had a day-off today, and spent much of it here. Thanks for the company, fellas. :hick:

Aaah, Kurki-sama is very wise! HRE campaign, with a nice supply of beer is a very enjoyable evening indeed. Still, my French campaign, and my wine, progress nicely.

Kagemusha, my friend, my next trip to Oulu, you simply must come to vist. When we finally get banned from the last bar, the vacation shall be declared officially over, until the next time. If I remember correctly, there are a grand total of 9. For Americans, that might seem a lot, but not by Finnish standards. Oulu has a population of oh, I think 45K? And an airport though!

Don will you fly straight to Oulu?If you come first to Helsinki i will buy you a beer or two here thats guaranteed my friend. About Oulu thats big city in our standards. Capital Helsinki where i live has under one million people and we have total of just over 5 million. We are dying breed. But we are going to have fun while we remain.Don how did you like here was it nice?We Finns can be very silent and shy people. Ofcourse the infrastructure is quit nice, but then we are hardworking people. One saying here is roughly translated: work hard, play hard. In Finnish: "Raskaat työt,raskaat huvit".

Quite the opposite, my friend. I'm the one American that can get you crazy Finns to come out of your shells. I can't begin to keep up to you guys drinking wise for more than a couple of days, but yeah, I always love coming to Finland. Usually, I fly to one Nokia facility or another, don't get to hit multiple cities. I usually either go to Espoo (close enough to you, but rare) Oulu (where I usually go) or Turku (most fun, but a bitch to get anywhere from...)

I find Finns to be the most hospitable, sociable people in Europe. In real life, much as on the Org, I'm a very chatty person. I don't know if I put Finns off and they're just polite about it, but generally, I've wormed my way into social interactions most times I've been. I find you all to be a very friendly, if guarded at first, bunch.

Precisely. As a boy, I worked in a mom-and-pop grocery store in Detroit's inner-city (grimey, crimey, downtrodden kind of place). But the up-side was that the neighborhood was full of poor immigrants from all over the world and all over the US. Everyone trying to land a good job building autos for big money, but most failing; instead settling for whatever work they could find.

But to my young ears and eyes, the place was a wonderland of accents and expressions that opened my mind to the rest of the world. All united, however briefly, by a fondness for alcohol, horse-race betting, and jokes.

This international crew included Finns who had come to northern Michigan to work the iron mines. When they (the mines) failed in the late 50's, the Finns came to Detroit seeking work. And I must say, the dozen or so I met as a boy were indeed shy and silent, though they would smile when young Jimmy would hand them a cold Stroh's.

Don if you happen to drop to Espoo. It means you will land in Helsinki Vantaa airport which is about 10 km from where i live. When that happends. We should definately should have beer or two and i would be honoured to meet you, also Turku is just an hour of drive a way where i live, but Oulu is on the other side of our country. And while there is not that many people here the country is bigger then Germany for example. Im happy that you have a such a nice wiew about us. What i can say is that when Finn says something he/she propably means what he says. Gah thats hard to say again.Did you know that in our language when we talk about a person we dont have she/he.We just use hän for both sexes. But my friend if you are ever coming to Southern Finland pm me first.

To put it in few in few words. That is just beutifull to read how it has been in other time, maybe a better time, while people were poor ,but maybe they were more human then my generation can ever be.Thank you Kukri Sama for sharing a glimps of your youth.Maybe one honest smile can be stronger then thousand words. And just maybe it really is.

Kiitos! (Spelling?) I will most certainly take advantage of your offer. But you do realize, it costs about 90 Euros to fly to Oulu, and it's actually a fun town. You also realize you cannot get to Turku or Oulu without going through Vantaa at some point....

And who are you to lecture an American on travelling long distances? Oulu to Vantaa is about 400km... I've driven that that to attend a party, then driven home! (Well, had the wife drive home anyways.)

I'm just teasing you, I think it's kinda funny that Oulu to Vantaa is a long distance... it's roughly the same as Pittsburg to Philly. Not too far to drive at all.

    I justfiniched school!
We had a pretty sweet champagne breakfast.
Unfortunatley some people were too wasted to hide their drunkeness and got escorted out from school.
Haha, there was a guy who kept on flopping it out, sooo funny.

    I return.

Fascinating revelations under the influence of Her Majesty's Royal Navy Drink of Choicve. That's right- high qulaity rum. Next best thing to Bourbon.

I think my brain works differently, because alcohol actually works as a dissociative psychedelic at high enough levels. It's great fun if you aare bored out of your mind, because it enables you to leave your mind behind. I still would much rather smoke dope, but that is not an option at the moment, so I am left with experimentation.

"After Bathing At Baxter's" might be the best album ever made. It was perfect for my current mental state, anyway.

    Beautiful, man, beautiful.
