I assume your going Infantry which means Fort Benning have a fun hot humid at Basic.

Which unit did you elect to go to?

Nah, I'm going into transportation, but luckily I had the option to go airbourne on top of that. First Ill go to fort lwood in missouri for basic and ait then I'll go to fort benning georgia. I believe I'm gonna be stationed in fort sill but hopefully I can go regimental and get overseas.And to be honest I still know very little about all of this, I can only tell you whats on the paper in front of me. First unit of assignment: UNAB

Yesdachi- Since I haven't ran in a few years I'm gonna make sure I can atleast run a mile in 8 minutes before I do pt.

Like earlier mentioned you should change your attitude a bit.

Remeber you they try to instill teamwork so try and be friendly to the other recruits, smartmouths and troublemakers tend to become isolated and lag behind because of it.

And basic will be fairly easy, it's more mental than physical. Everything they ask you to do you CAN do. They start you small and work big which will develop your body so take the PT seriously and try to enjoy it. Also remeber that they aren't trying to break you or anything, as you'll hear many times they are not trying to set you up for failure but are training you.
And don't take what the drills sergeants tell you personnally, they are just doing their job which means trying to stress you out. Take what they tell you seriously and at face value, the delivery is just their job.

You've got a few weeks ahead of you and if can try to condition yourself a little bit physically. Do pushups (good ones, all the way down), situps, and a bit of jogging just to get your body prepped. Also do plenty of flutter kicks and overhand claps

AIT will be easy and much more relaxed but remeber also to take it seriously the US is at war and I assume you've accepted that you'll probably see Iraq or Afghanistan sometime.

Remeber, mind game, you can do it. If you're roadmarching and feet and back are just starting to ache sing a song in your head instead of thinking "oh my aching back and burning feet".

If you are going to Fort Sill be sure and come here to post when you get there, I can tell you where the good strip clubs are in the sticks, the good kind, not the g-string and pastey crap they do in Lawton, and getting beer won't be a problem if you are under 21

The Big Man at Fort Sill may still ban soldiers from Lawton bars anyway, lots of gangs lots of shootings, the bans come and go. One more reason to go to the sticks in nearby podunk towns like Elgin. In facm, if they let you get off-base housing you should rent a place outside of Lawton, I can promise you soldiers get laid more in the little towns, maybe even easier to find a hot wife who doesnt have crabs or juvenile hall tatoos like the girls in Lawton.

If you want to go fight with Airforce guys you can drive to Shephard or altus in like 90 minutes from Fort Sill.

Also my grams live right outside the fence of key gate and she always invites neighborhood and church soldiers for holiday dinners, but if you were to come you cant say anything about strip clubs or she would take me out of her will.

Ah fort lost in the woods. Not a bad basic training post. Hot and humid in the summer but not near as bad as Georgia.

The Army is pretty much based on the regiment system as is, however in my time it did not have much impact upon your duty assignment.

One way to insure you get transfered overseas is to re-enlist for that type of assignment. (only if your interested in staying in.) Depending on your enlistment contract - chances are you will get orders after 2 years to 3 years at Fort Sill for another duty station. (If your contract is 4 years - you will most likely come down on levy for assignment at your 3 year mark. And the Army will ask you to re-enlist for the new duty station.) Pay close attention to what the papers state. Only re-enlist if that is what you want to do.

Fort Sill is not a bad duty station either, if your after deployments to overseas locations. Try to get assigned to one of the Field Artillery Battalions that are part of 3rd Corps Artillery, some deployments to overseas will definitly happen then, plus the Artillery Units often deploy to the NTC and JRTC to support divisional units training at the Training Centers.

If your MOS is going to be what I think it is (can't remember the MOS but I believe 88M) then most likely will will be assigned to one of the Artillery Battalions driving Ammunition vehicles. But if I remember correctly there are several Corps level Combat Service Support units assigned at Fort Sill. All of those units are most likely active in the deployment schedules also.

If you do not want to be deployed - try to get assigned to the Artillery School. (Not that you will have much of a choice.)
