These poll results are not surprising to me at all. With such weak numbers on the R’s side the D’s should gain some power in the next round of elections. I wonder if they will have any solutions to the issues that trouble our country? Because once you’re in office you actually have to do something other than criticize every single thing that those in office do.

The D’s haven’t offered any viable solutions to any of the a-g issues recently and I don’t think they will even if the gain some seats in office. I don’t think they are waiting for just the right moment to spring these great ideas to lower gas prices, make prescriptions reasonably priced, improve the economy, resolve our immigration woes, handle the situation in Iraq or win our campaign against terrorism.

    a. The situation in Iraq
    b. The US campaign against terrorism
    c. The economy
    d. Prescription drug benefits for the elderly
    e. Immigration issues
    f. Health care
    g. The situation with gas prices

These are real issues for most Americans and there isn’t crap being done that actually represents what Americans want. An excellent recent example is the Immigration bill, what a joke, that’s not what America wants. And when’s the last time anyone has even tried to work on Healthcare, prescriptions or the economy? They are all too busy throwing mud or trying to dodge it. I believe I am rambling but I will leave it.

    I love polls!!!

One thing I found of particular interest is that there does seem to be a Democratic majority in America. Yet, the Republicans hold POTUS, COTUS and SCOTUS.

Naturally, people in a democracy will look to the opposition for solutions after a certain amount of time. This result is therefore not at all surprising:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    9. Overall, which party, the (Democrats) or the (Republicans), do you trust to do a better job in coping with the main problems the nation faces over the next few years?

    Both Neither
Democrats Republicans (vol.) (vol.) No opinion
    4/9/06 51 37 1 9 2

This one did come as a bit of a surprise to me though. Democrats outnumber Republicans:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    901. Generally speaking, do you usually think of yourself as:

Democrat Republican Independent Other No op.
    4/9/06 34 29 34 3 0

    901/904 Leaned Party:

Democrat Republican Independent Other No op.
    4/9/06 53 42 5 1 0

Ah, but the one below explains a lot. Democrats outnumber Republicans, yet conservatives vastly outnumber liberals. But moderates pwn both.
There are even more conservatives than Republicans, demonstrating how the GOP has become a vehicle for a minority pressure group. Liberals on the other hand constitute only a slight majority of Democrats, which means they can not dominate their party in the way that conservatives do on the right. Which should in theory make the Democrats the more natural choice for that moderate majority.

Gah, when oh when will the Democrats finally manage to wring mainstream, moderate America from the firm grasp of the GOP?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
908a. Would you say your views on most political matters are liberal, moderate, or conservative?

    Don't think in No
Liberal Moderate Conservative those terms (vol.) op.
    4/9/06 21 41 35 2 1

    Thanks, Lemur, nice poll.

You hit the nail on the head Louis, that is exactly why the loudspeakers for the D’s need to be phased out and replaced with some that are less extreme liberal and more conservative and moderate. Heck, I think a decent D candidate could clean house against the unpopular GOP, but there doesn’t seem to be any D’s that the majority of people can trust to represent them right now.

I like how people all disapprove of the job congress is doing, but then they all approve of the job their own representative is doing....

Which means, they hate the job they're doing, but are going to re-elect them anyhow.

It's also interesting to see how successful Democrats and the media are at painting the economy as bleak even in the face of reality.
