if you had... like £10000000000

to make a computer game of your choice what would it be?
mine would be an RPG of 'epic' preportions set in post-apocalyptic britain... you put in your post code (if you actually live in britain) or the game assigns you a made up house and you can travel any where in the whole of the uk trying to gather survivors and build up a stable government or just wreck the place... everything will be destructable and there will be few AI players... you have to find safe food to eat/drink, you have to find sources of fuel, your clothing gradually degrades so you have to find new stuff to wear or you get too cold, some cars work and some are death traps
sort of a mix between fallout and oblivion but with no magic/mutations

You'll need to read Iain Banks' novel Complicity for details of this one, but basically it is Civilization on steroids. Pretty similar concept, but with varying degrees of power as you rise up the ranks. Start as the chieftan of a small tribe and you can't see/do/influence as much as you can as King of a large country etc. Also seems to have some real-time/turn-based cross over and a competent AI. If only . . .

Mine would be an RPG-TBS-RTS (a-la Rome the latter) hybrid, with some adventure elements. A game of grand strategy but also of petty politics, humble starts and stuff. Say, let's name it... Alea Jacta Est.
You start in a historical setting of choice (I would actually choose the ancient Mediteranean world to be represented in the game, very in-depth and accurately) and pick up a character. Not a historical one. You may pick a farmer in 50 AD Rome, or a peasant in 4th century BC Macedonia, or a citizen in 5th BC Athens, or an omoios in 6th BC Sparta or whatnot. Then you try to bring your character to a position of power. You can use military skill (at first, you'll be fighting in the lines with the other soldiers, than as you advance in rank you will be assigned various commands, until you manage to have your own army and be in a position to claim higher power) or political/diplomatical skills (endless sessions at the Agora, ostracising, backstabbing at the Senate, scheming in the court of some hellenistic king, panem et circensis, winner at the olympics... you know the stuff). Eventually you can come to a point to be absolute ruler or be the strong man of the republic/democracy... and here is when the real fun starts.
A great asset would be to actually build up power for your family. Say, in the first generation you gain military fame and some money and influence. In the second a seat in the senate. In the third, you become a famed politican and Dictator... that kind of stuff.
It's a game of uber-epic proportions, I might say... would be the absolute game. With a battle engine similar to RTW (or MTW 2, even better) but you can be able to guide your individual character... and lots of other bells and whistels... while the political/diplomatic model would be... well, don't think there's any game featuring such an engine...

Mine would be that, but with only the RPG elements. You take control of a random person from any time in the past 5000 years. You can do what you want with them, but your main aim should be to take them to a position of power.
My perfect game:
Take MTW, make it flawlessly 3D, fix some minor things, expand diplomacy and economics, and be pretty much done.
Civilization mixed with Total War and an ultra-realistic RPG.
With amazing modability (open-source even), and the option to play a single period of history.

It would be a third person online World War I shooter. There's more to this, but that's the basic concept.

Yes, be wonderful!

strategy:
I want full scalability, zoom out to a map the size of Europe, zoom in and see blades of grass ! Imagine an RTS where you could spend 10-20h on a map (like a 4X game), time enough to include a tech tree ! So i got two ideas of what to with this:
*Medieval: start at around the fall of the Roman Empire, end at about the Discovery of the Americas. Get close for tactical fights like those in MTW, zoom out for a full scale view of your empire. Everything happens in real time (with speed sliders of course), supply lines matter, you can found and raze cities.
*futuristic: besides the huge map i'd like to add another thing: customizable units ! Imagine the ship builder from GalCivII, but being able to design tanks, aircraft, infantry, ships and of course, giant mechs ! Research new weapon and defense techs in different categories (like melee, rocket, rapid fire, cannon, laser) and integrate them into your own designs !
RPG:
I've got the pretty standard answer here: a 'realistic' medieval world with the freedom of an Elder Scrolls game, and of course, far better AI, and virtually no leveling (skills can improve, but not too much). Different starting options like a hedge knight, merchant's son, peasant, etc.
Alternatively, I'd just hand over my money to Troika (first I need to get them back together) and get them to make whatever they want.

I'm waiting to see if Medieval Kingdoms is what I hope it will be. An MMORPG spanning a vast area in which players live out the lives of their characters and heirs from peasantry upwards, banding together with other players to forge kingdoms, build cities, and monopolise on faith. Sweetness. I'm also a roleplayer (is that a mob I hear?) so Adellion should be fun when they finally get it going.

I can think of several:
An up to date state of the art version of Red Baron 3D (WW 1 flight sim)
An up to date state of the art version of Panzer Commander (WW II tank sim)
An up to date state of the art version of Sea Dogs (pirate adventure/age of sail naval simulation) Akella put out the first Sea Dogs which was pretty much based on Sid Meiers original "Pirates" Only Sid's remake of his original has come close to fufilling my dream of the perfect pirate game.
I have no faith in Akella to release the perfect pirate adventure, regardless of their promises, because other than the previously mentioned SeaDogs, everything else they have released has been mostly bug ridden crap.
Lastly, I would like a game that combines blowing the crap out of everything that includes half nekkid women. I've even thought of a title: "Blow the crap out of everything while getting to see nekkid women"
I'b buy at least 3 copies just in case I wore a couple out.
Cheers

Oooh.... me too! That would be wonderful.
It's amazing how flight sims (or sims of any kind, really) are now the bastard children of the gaming genre. There used to be so many good ones. And the WWI era is a natural for people who don't want to mess with cycling MFD's and weapon systems in combat... just pure flight aerobatics and guns. There is a ton of potential for role-playing the backstory as a pilot too.... although I can't think of this without remembering that Blackadder episode where they sign up as pilots to get out of the trenches, and then discover what the life expectancy is...

Yeah, I'd go for that.

From what I've heard about Duke Nukem Forever, *if* it ever comes out, you may get your wish.
My personal "cost is no object" game would be a total, state of the art, freeform space game... borrowing the Elite algorithmically-generated universe, with the Independence War 2 spaceflight model. I know there are things like "Eve" out there, but my recent experience with X3 has made me realize that I really hate stupid physics models. Nobody has really done this right yet. I-War2 came close.
Oh yeah, and I'd like a decent combat helicopter game too... another dead genre, apparently.
P.S. I didn't list any strategy games here because there are enough games like that out there now, to choose from. They may not be perfect, but they're available. Try to find a combat helo sim.

Now that you mention it, I'd LOVE an up to date state of the art 3D version of Silent Service II!
But then again, they'd probably screw it up anyhow :/

LOL, great game title there
I think it would be fun to have games that were designed exclusively for adults rather than adults
and kiddies. But then, I'm sure the guardians of public morality would frown on such things

Rockstar games (GTA) designs games specifically for the 'mature' or 'adult' ratings (17+ or 18+), look what's happening to them...
screwtype 09:24 04-19-2006
What's happening to them?
doc_bean 12:19 04-19-2006
They're getting sued, they had to recall san andreas, harassment by the public imo.
they're still getting rich though

Grand Theft Auto: Globe, where you can create characters! and everything is minutely detailed to be almost reallife
UltraWar 11:45 04-23-2006
