Not bad, but I think that Jannisary didn't look like that. Especially weapon - polearm halberd like they are Swiss. Or maybe I am who thought wrong...

Hmmm not sure if I think anything about this latest effort. I would expect to see more protection around the face/neck area

Maybe he ought to have one of those big shields like the bloke in MTW. He dos look pretty vulnerable. Also he could do with some greaves given that his armoured skirt is wide open at the front, which would seem to be the worst possible place to be unprotected.

Didn't work for me either, but I've seen it. Here are some pics of it, taken by one from TWC.

This is a Janissary ? Is there something that I've been taught utterly wrong or the modellers made some mistake over there ?

Ah, the return of the polearm. Never used by the Yeni Çerii themselves, but rather by semi-professional troops from Anadolu. Oh well, let's just hope they restore the old tactical system, so I don't have to suffer from an exponentially increased blood pressure whenever a group of Hobilars plows through my Swiss pikes...

What on Earth is going on with the armour? And the helmet?

He doesn't look very Jannisary to me either. But he does look a little better than the Huscarl and the Swordsman...

armour looks weird indeed. His belt armour is probably based on this sipahi. But what's with the lack of shoulder and arm protection ?

Same with what Kraxis said, Dutch Guy. Here is what comes to my mind when Janissary is mentioned.

I was just going to say, I've seen pics of Janissaries and they don't have much armour on.

The janissaries were superior to their western foes because of their discipline and dedication as well as their fighting skills. These are hard to simulate with the total war engine, as basic stats like attack, defence and armour and weapon are the most important.

And if you don't give the Turks any polearm units, they would get bulldozed by western heavy knights, like Almos do in MTW.

At the risk of sounding too picky, isn't he a bit pale for an Arab? Even a Turk. His face looks rather Anglo. If his colors were different, he's strike me as a Militia Sgt. (peasant-levy with better armor).

Since Janissaries were originally recruited from amongst christian populations, you would expect them to look more eastern or southern European than Middle Eastern.

It isn't completely ahistorical for the janissaries to wield polearms actually, members of special assault squads (called 'head riskers' and made up of volunteers from the Azaps and Janissaries) may have used polearms, a sort of staff weapon called a Tirpan(I think). Though janissaries actually used what weapons they preferred, which was usually a composite bow and a small close combat weapon, though these assault squads may have used polearms since they were usually used in siege assaults or for charging enemy formations and then you might need something bigger than a short sword or hand axe.

It doesn't go to sleep thinking, "I wasn't really a very good bear today". They are just 100 per cent bear, whereas human beings feel we're not 100 per cent human, that we're always letting ourselves down. We're constantly striving towards something, to some fulfilment"

Just to add to Randarlmaan's post, the JHI in M2TW are likely modelled after the Zirhli Nefer assault troops, who do carry polearms. You can find this info in Osprey's Elite book on Jannisaries.
My comment on the model is that the polearms looks a little too fantasy-ish to me and the costume design leaves something to be desired.

Thats exactly the picture I was refering to Hellenes. Good find. I agree that CA should've modelled them closer to that but who am I to complain. No worries though, cuz the MTR team will rectify this.

It is clear that the leftmost guy is what they have tried to create to an extent. But the small differences they put in here and there, makes for an overall very unsatisfying result. That is sad actually, as I can see they have at least tried, unlike in so many other cases.

If he had the rhombus shield, those chain mail greaves, and handlebar moustache, it would be much better in my opinion.

Janissaries with guns would be interesting too.

Jannisary heavy infantry used polearm weapon for killing heavy armoured knights, but they didn't look as CA represented. This weapon was called jylit (I don't know how to translate, maybe jilit or jilyt).
