hallo, i dont know if this could be of some use, i was trying to make a unit card for pahlava chataphract. I think you have already done some better one, anyway this is mine:



If it can be of some use i can refine it a bit better

please feel free to say it is completely useless if you have already it, this was just some experimet with MSPaint and im not a graphic artist.

HOW TO INSTALL
to play it in your game, just download the file from the link above (use "free" in the rapidshare page) and unzip the file in your "EB main folder"\data\ui directory. This file dont delete and dont change nothink, it just add a new dir called "unit_info", so you can safely install it and continue your campaign.

If you want to delete it, just delete the directory "unit_info" in the same folder (data\ui)
take present those cards are amatorial, not professional, i think they are good to replacing the grey peasant though. Hope with this to give my contribute to EB!

EDITED: UPDATED 28/8/2006 - I Added one more unit card, the mercenary Hippeis, if you play KH or Seleucid, you will see them often so hope this unit card is of some use, also finally i get to make a better Zadhra Shivatir unit card, the previous was just awfull, and i modified a bit the Pahlava Shivatir too

PS: if you miss very much some unit card in your campaign, and you dont know how to make it yourself, let me know i could add it here (time allowing me...)

here UnitCard and Small CArd for Niza Gund, and a Small Card for Zadhra Pahlavans, they look good with the new interface... the original are packed, so if you dont know how to unpack dont download them... i putted them here just as an extra, i dont know how to create an easy install

Actually, every one can do a unit card, by just simply making a screenshot and editing it a bit in Paint or other Photo editor.

PS: if some good soul coud explain me how to fit (what format, example png, bmp ecc, what directory ecc) that image in my 0.74 unitcard i will be very pleased. Im totally ingorant of modding so if it is possible please explain it very simple...

ok ive understand how to edit the trasparency and to add to unit card

i used photoshop with 0 tolerance magicwand, and this is a real ingame screenshot:



i could upload the steppe_cavalry_zradhapahlavans_info.TGA file, but i didn't understand how to upload files in the forum

extract the file in your "EB main directory"\data\ui and you have 4 new unit cards, the file do not delete nothing so is full compatible, and you can continue your campaign with no problem.

Take present that those are amatorial cards (im not graphic artist)
If you want to delete it, just delete the unit-info directory created in the "data\ui\" folder

Corel Paint Shop Pro is the best suited for map editing and other graphics like unit cards.

I still use Photoshop before I will make the transition to PSP. PSP is extremely in-depth(has tons of features which Photoshop doesn't have), and it takes much time to get used to it.

As for Corel Draw, sorry. I don't know about it. Never used it.

I'm in a funnier situation. On one hand, at home, I have no photoshop. At school, I have photoshop but no internet access so nowhere to get the images from. Yippee.

Oh, and I am a complete photoshop incompetent as well as being too addicted to EB to have time to mod or learn to mod.

@Tiberius, there was a misunderstanding... I haven't done the descriptions for the cards (im not capable of doing that), i only did the missing graphic for the 4 units you see above, so if you play parthia you can see them instead of that ugly grey peasant (yes i hate him eheh). It is a very insignificant (and not professional) work but i think it can help to feel better when playing Pahlava and checking that cards.

PS: actually ive done a "Skuda Fat Aexsdzhytae" graphic, but i dont know what name to give to the TGA files, it seems that this name dont work:

steppe_cavalry_scythianhorsearchers_info (i putted the file in the data\ui\unit_info\Parthia dir)

so if a modder can say me what name to do to the file and in what directory to place it i will be very pleased!

i understood in what directory (MERC) to put the Skuda Fat Aexsdzhytae TGA files so now it works

this file contains all 4 old units + Skuda Fat Aexsdzhytae unit card graphic (the old one were refitted in 160*210 standard dimension) if you want to download:

I want to play too but I have no idea how to make the white background transparent, or add the tga to the unit's profile.

Obelics how do you do this? You take a screenshot then try to cut the background, or resize to a smaller size first and cut the background off a smaller pic? Hmm, how do you cut off the background anyway ? How do you know what folders to create to put the TGA into? Do you make the background transparent somehow or just leave it white?

hallo wardo, to make trasparent background i proceed in this manner:
create a blank image with trasparent background, then paste the screen shot of the unit.
After i delete the background (it is the most boring part), i use the gum to do this, if you have previously pasted the screen shot on a blank image, the gum will delete the background with a blank background.

For the grass part i dont use the screen shot grass, i just edit my own grass.

If you have already a white background (as in your case) just use the magic wand, it select all the white part, so you can delete it (with the gum) and obtain a blank background, anyway this are the thread that have helped me to understand the samethinks you are asking:

there is also explained how to name the TGA files (you must use the dictionary name in the export_descr_unit file)

the unit look very nice, the only problem (and this is also my problem ) is that the screen shot are token from above (is like you look at them from the sky), while the standart units card are token from below (is like you look at them from the ground) so im not sure they will be of some use, but i think they can help now, waiting some real graphic artist make some better. Also our amateur unit cards are better than grey peasant!

PS remember to resize it to 160*210 this is the standard format of the unit cards!

EDIT: if you want to play it just create a unit_info directory in your "data\ui\" folder. then in the new directory, create a "seleucid" directory and put the TGA file, but rename it "roman_praetorian_cavalry_info". it should work

thanks wardo, i hope you will help me on this eheh (a tip: try to take the screen shot on the edge of a hill, this can make the picture less air-view, since the unit is inclined towards the height)
