    Default Inquiry........Do officers add any......

....leadership value and if so, why are ther only three type allowed in the game only. There should be at least five. I wonder if this will change in the upcoming MTW2. I hope someone can give me an answer to this!

Not to my knowledge. As far as I know, they´re just in for the show.

I think that the command stars and influence are used to boost morale, and the leader with higher command and influence will have a greater radius of influence, boosting the morale of more troops. If the leaders were just there for show, there's no way that I've had whole armies rout if my leader on the battlefield die or the same for the enemy.

I'm convinced that officers do not influence troop morale, combat bonuses etc. However, it would be good if officers, standard bearers and the like could be coded to do this, as technically it is realistic.

Through testing, I've noticed that officers et al have more durability than their rank-and-file subordinates. One memorable occasion was watching an Eastern Heavy Musician dishing out some seious punishment with those formidable-looking dagger-type things. If only they could whack someone with those trumpet horns they carry, that would be quality!

I think that CA somewere on this fourm said that officers have extra +2hp (or was it 1?). Similary, generals have extra +5hp compared to their bodyguards.

I read somewhere the officers, musicians and standard-bearers have 2 HP to the basic soldier's 1. Dunno how that works with the occasional unit with more than one HP, say, a general's bodyguard with a mounted officer thrown in just for the looks.

Other than that, I don't think they have the slightest effect aside from A) looking neat B) adding a few bodies to the fighting power of the unit.

That's what unit stats are for, isn't it ?

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

The Roman officers with the velites' fur coat should be there simply because it's the image of Roman military might: the aquilifer which is so famous. If it wasn't there, people would complain about it.
