    Default What should I do? Give up?

    Been playing the beta since it´s release and love it.... unless it crashes! CTD upon CTD makes this mod utterly unplayable. Been monitoring every board and topic making all suggested changes and implementing the reinforcement CTD-fix etc etc but nothing helps. Last night I reinstalled RTW and the latest EB version including the required patch and I though I was home free... but alas the CTD bug stares his ugly face upon my Qarth empire... I give up, I resign.
    How far has the work on porting to 1.5 come? I understand if you won´t give the community a release date but is it a week away, a month, 3 months... you have to have an estimate. Otherwise what should I do? Reinstall vanilla and RTR or wait for you guys? Thx in advance for any advice and keep up the good work on this mod.

    Surely you're kidding. There is one verifiable CTD that occurs in certain types of battles - and it can be avoided usually or at the very least auto-resolved if no other way is found to get through the situation. That's it. What other types of CTDs in this beta are you experiencing - you don't even say what they are? If you want to reinstall RTR go ahead, but don't hold it out like it's some sort of threat. This type of post is disheartening Pse.

    I´m not making threats TA, you should know I´m not that type of guy and I´d never try to be disheartening. How can you read that into what I said???? This was NOT what I was trying to say.
    What I was trying to point out is that I can no longer play the latest version of the EB beta due to it crashing all the time and I´m aware that I can get around it by autocalc but then why should I bother building nicely combined armies? I should just go ahead and build mass-hastatii armies as the Romans etc and autocalc every battle!? Since the autocalc function is severely f_d up and I take losses ten times larger than when I do them myself this is not an acceptable approach IMO.
    I really don´t want to go back to RTR just to have a decent game to play - BTDT! I love EB and mostly all of its features. This is why I´m so frustrated when I can´t play it. Seeing that some players have no problems what so ever with this bug makes it even more frustrating.

    Since I was the first to report the seige-reinforcement CTD and its severity I though I didn´t have to but with the latest version I even get it in open battlefield battles. I´ve tried every suggested "fix" this board has come up with. Since you guys decided to leave this bug to, hopefully, get fixed by the porting to 1.5 I was merely asking if I should wait for it. Is it around the corner or far away?

    I think I have had one ctd and it was completely random.

    The only CTD I have yet experiance was when I clicked the Quick Battle buton form the menu, wich is not that big of a deal, I rarely used that feature any way. The only thing that I have encounterd that made me go, "Hu?" was right in the middle of the campane I am wroking on now. I hit the end turn buton and the other factions go about their biseness 'till Ibearia's turn roled around then the game stoped and I got the curser back and I could scrol arund and look at things, I could not click on any thing or control any one. I reloaded the game and tryed it agin, the same thing hapend but it was on Bactria's turn. A simple restart of the game fixed it. I think it was an error on my computers part more so than it was in the game/mod code.

    Did you never make it to 246? Although that wasn't really a CTD. Anyways, Pse, have all your CTDs been reinforcements? Or have their been other CTDs, I've only had reinforcement ones and now I just simulate them, however painful that may be.

    I passed to 239BC. No CTD's. Played with Seleukids till then.

    Played also with Romani, Getai and Karthadastim, but I didn't get to 246BC.

    We haven't got it all together yet, so we can't say for sure. I can say that I have a playable version of EB in 1.5 - but without any units. One thing we didn't count on at first was that when we do this next culture swap (which we have already done at its core) for 1.5, that it will mess with a lot of our unique buildings - so I'm having to go back and reslot most of them. But our unit guys are hard at work trying to get the units working in it now too, and as it looks now, getting the units fully ported and getting the building reslotting for culture swap and then new icons in place for them, those two things are the biggest hurdles we have to face. No idea on a time estimate though for it. Sorry the CTD's with reinforcements are causing such a big problem. When we get the units ported over we can see if the problem is resolved like we hope (like we think, maybe?) they might be.

    Oh, it has a few vanilla ones. Just for a stage to get ready for the importing of units. So generals can run around and grab cities by themselves. It seems to work well so far - thanks to nikolai and cunctator mostly.

    Strange tough. I had one minor CTD with Romani.

    I exited the campaign, but it also exited the game for me!!!

    @O´etaipos,
    Haven´t removed the Map.rwm-file after every game but fairly often. The trait-patch you´re refering to, is it the one that replaces traits, do battle, save reload and replace with old traits, the so called "Reinforcement CTD-fix"?
    If so yes but I have a message after activating the "swap-file" that tells me that the location of the file is incorrect... if I remember it correctly.

    @Xanthippos,
    Before 0.74 I only had reinforcement CTD´s during sieges but after installing 0.74 I get CTD´s even with reinforcment battles on ordinary battlefields as well as at random (it seems) single battles even not during the AI turn.

    @TA,
    Sounds like you´re making good progress although that bulk of units must drain your limited resources. If I thought that it even was a slim chance for me to help you guys I´d offer it.

    @All,
    You guys seems to have a far more stable game than I´ve been experiencing which makes me wonder if I´m doing something wrong here. I follow the install instructions, as recommended, step by step. I even check the game after each step. The only thing I can think of that might be going wrong here is that I have to manually install the 1.2 patch since after the vanilla install the installer tells me that the game have already been updated to the 1.2 patch which it hasn´t been yet. Anyway, this should not cause the CTD´s I´m experiencing.
    What do you guys recommend?

    Me too! I loved that! (Since I wanted to exit RTW anyway...)

    @PseRamesses,
    Try the manual 1.2 patch.
    Try tossing the RTW folder after an uninstall. I got fustrated as you did, uninstalled, and tried some other mods. Didn't like 'em, so uninstalled RTW, reinstalled-patched-EB'd, and noticed some faction banners from the previous mod. Seems the uninstaller is leaving some crud behind... (!) So, unless somebody more authoritative says otherwise, I'd say try deleting the RTW directory after uninstalling.

    Might wanna keep the saves directory, though.

    I have played with several factions and the only CTDs are random battle CTDs that don't even reoccur when I play the battle next.

    I always delete the remainding RTW folder after uninstalling the game. I also clean my disc and defrag it just to make the new install nice and proper. When installing I playtest each step to make shure everything loads properly too.
    *Regarding the deleting the Map.rwm file advice. Is this something you guys do before each new game?
    *Regarding the "Reinforement CTD fix". When I´ve used it it tells me that the location of the folder is in the wrong place. Where should I place it? I was under the assumption that on the desktop was sufficient?

    Wow. That's really thorough! Dunno what else to suggest, mate.

    If you're referring to the set of batch files for the "Reinforcement CTD" fix, it should be in the "c:\program files\activision\rome total war" folder.

    Aside from that, I'd suggest NOT using the high-priority shortcut.

    Thx, maybee that´s one of my problems?!
    Anyway, dl:ed all versions and patches and reinstalled the whole lot today after cleaning my hd. Been playing A.S for 6 years and not one single CTD (yet ;)) Deleted the map.rwm file right before playing which I´ve never done before on a fresh install.
    I´ve had numerous situations both during sieges and open battlefields that used to crash on me with and without generals but it seems really solid. I do hope and pray this will work. I´ll report more this weekend. Thx all for your help... unvaluable, as always.

    Man, I was just about to go into a long-winded rant about the possibility of high-priority non-system processes causing instability, but you beat me to it.
