    the part that is hard is getting off the ground in the initial stages of the game. I spent a lot of time defending citys with not enough troops and in- atiquit defenses simply because i couldnt aford them. im still trying to hold off the extreamly powerefull gauls in 150!!! they dont seem to ever get hurt

    This game like many similar ones can be beaten as a player gains a good understanding of what works.

    Perhaps we need more community games..comparisons of how we each did in the same situation..races to complete a set task etc. We are then playing the game solo and also competing against others.

    I agree with that. Still, once you get past the initial stage it is easy just to steamroller the opposition. Also, even with huge stat bonuses it is still too easy to mop up stack after stack of A.I. troops. M:TW provided a better challenge in that aspect.

    The problem with H/VH difficulties is that they don't actually make the enemy any smarter, they just give them +4 / +7 attack, and some kind of morale bonus. So even if you increase the difficulty, you'll not lose because you were caught out by an Echeloned Assault manoeuvre by the cunning AI, but rather their Town Watch just smashed through your phalanx. Medium difficulty is the balanced setting.

    You might want to give a settlement placed a little distance away from you big sums of money, more population, more buildings and so on. If you`re lucky, it`ll turn into a superpower.

    I agree. Back with MTW/VI we ran a lot of challenges and games to complete certain goals like "who can get the French to capture the crusader targets the fastest". I do belive I stilöl hold that record. I also remember that Katank was a really cunning blitz specialist, sorry he´s not around with RTW.

    One fun challenge is to turn Ptolemies, Pontos, Pahlav, Hai, Bactria and Yehuzi into protectorates as ArcheSeleukeia in an EB game. I always try this but have only managed to get three of the above. I also like to play the Romans as close to real history as possible so I expand accordingly and I gives the AI ample of time to pose a serious threat.... mmm, yummy!

    katank was around for RTW, but he disappeared a few months ago..

    A lot of helpful posts further back in the guides though.

    The only problem with VH is the money problem.
    If you don't build up your money resources, you get pwned, because of stacks and stacks of enemy armies come to pwn you.
