Default ive never downladed a mod before

I would like to download a mod for RTW, not BI. I don't like the whole religion thing as much as everyone pagan like in RTW original. But I would like to download a mod that changes factions and maybe the map around a bit. Can someone suggest a good mod, or answer this: if i download a mod, will it take the place of my RTW files and stuff? can i still play the original RTW and the mod? What I mean is, will there be a seperate campaign for the mod, or will it replace the imperial campaign?

Most mods replace the original camapign, and you will not be able to play original RTw after installing them

well the two best mods at the moment for RTW are Europa Barbarorum (https://www.europabarbarorum.com) and Rome: Total Realism (http://www.rometotalrealism.org) both of which add much to the game but in different ways... another good mod is Rome: Total Gameplay (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=118) if you don't want as much as the other two changes or SPQR (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32) which is a more fast paced game
but all in all the type of game you choose is up to you

to make sure you keep your previous install of Rome and have the ability to play the mod, I suggest using JSGME (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=58201) which is a simple to use program…

    hope I could help

What the mod actually does depends on what type of installer (if any) is included with the download. There are various types of installers / extractors, such as EXE, RAR, self-extracting ZIP etc. Each of these has a different procedure for actually transferring files onto your machine.

As a rough example, EXE installers tend to use a pre-defined wizard that moves step-by-step through the installation process. I'm not entirely sure how the other extractors / installers work, but I'd like to find out because my first installer isn't the best, more like a quickly put together EXE wizard.

It doesn't allow for that much flexibility - the default installation directory in the \data folder has to be used - which may hinder a user wanting to use the mod switch for example.

It is quite daunting if you haven't downloaded a mod before - I haven't either! Most mods should come with some type of installation instructions that should guide you through what you need to do.

Currently developing Rome: Total Gameplay (RTG), an unofficial mod for vanilla Rome: Total War v1.5

Features: improved battles, new units to recruit, more buildings to construct, a modified campaign map, and much more!

Most larger mods use an .exe installer where it's just a matter of pointing it at your Rome - Total War folder and it does the rest itself.

Smaller mods normally provide a replicated directory structure, so if you extract the file you will find a Data folder that you drag into your Rome - Total War folder (where the vanilla Data folder is) and it overwrites the correct files.

But use JSGME and save yourself a lot of both (link in sig).

The First Triumvirate mod does not replace your regular RTW files - the mod is installed in its own folder and is completely non-invasive to the regular game files. So you can switch back and forth from normal RTW to the TFT mod without any problem. The mod features campaigns for Caesar, Crassus, Pompey and The Gauls.
