I would think that's for you to decide.

I'd rather not spend my time with anxious people who look for the cues of others in order to make themselves fit into the acceptable norm. Just do what you like to do and relax a bit.

As a sidenote, I would say that the upper class don't have demanding jobs, the upper class is a leisure class. Upper middle would probably be the 'respectable' hardworkers.

That's pretty much why I started this thread, I was a bit confused by the use of upper and middle class in the social justice thread. I put the 'elite' forward as a class of non-working rich folks, the upper class are the hard working rich folks, often from upper class families. There are families where each generation there is at least one doctor, or politician or upper-level manager. A different class from the standard middle class I'd say.

In the 5 class system the upper middle was doctors / lawyers, accountants - the professionals basically. Middle middle was teachers, nurses and lower middle was the lower managers.

Dear Mr Blair once tried to shoe-horn football players into upper middle. Yes, they are richer than I will ever be, but most are true to their roots in lower middle or lower class. Their children have a chance to rise to middle or upper middle, on the back of the money their parents have.
