Anything above the lowest class is not a bad place to be, lower class can have it better than middle class, or even upper class.
It's not like the lines between the classes are clearly drawn, or have any real social relevance (people don't get certain rights based on class), it's a pretty abstract way of ordening people in very broad groups based on 'social status'.

I was talking about modern western society mostly. To be complete slavery and such should have been included too. But I even skipped on celebrities and such since their position is too vague imo.

Er, why are politicians trying to fit people into classes ? I use the class system as an abstract entity, with being part of a certain class having no real impact on your life (rather, the way you live your life determines your class).
