Default British intelligence in 19th century Asia?

I have an essay concerning "What obstacles did British Intelligence face in its work against the Russian threat in 19th Century Central Asia" has totally slipped my mind. Does anybody have any good links or maybe the briefest summaries? I would be extremely grateful for any help whatsoever.

    Cheers BKB

I don't know if this is a helpful comment, but if you can get your hands on a copy of "The Great Game" by Peter Hopkirk its an excellent history of all our skullduggery in high Asia. If you've got time.

Unfortunately I read it about 10 years ago and can't remember anything else sorry.

That is an awfully specific question. Your best bet is probably get a standard work ( a physical book) on the Great Game, or even the Eastern Question, from your library and check for footnotes or references to this specific subject.

Try EA's Hopkirk, or any of these books

And after you do all the above, just for fun read "FLASHMAN IN THE GREAT GAME" by George MacDonald Fraser. More info here: http://www.harpercollins.co.uk/books...t.aspx?id=9037

It's a great way to immerse yourself in the period!
