Where can I find information about the deployment of the British / Commonwealth troops during WW2? I am interested in the air force and army units outside of Europe, especially in Africa and the Middle East.

Google "western desert force" "british eighth army" and "desert air force".
You are asking about the entire history of one theatre of the war though, so expect a lot of info.

ANZAC. Also look for the Canadian troops (they're practically commonwealth, having just left the Empire and fighting with Britain anyway). There are also the Indian troops, who were important in Asia.

What are you talking about? Canada never left the commonwealth. We along with Britian, Austrailia, New Zealand, and South Africa FOUNDED the commonwealth. Read up on the statute of Westminister.
Now I don't remember exact details about Canadian units outside europe.
-1 brigade sent to Hong Kong in 1941. Called the Hong Kong brigade,
consisted of the Royal Rifles of Canada and the Winnepeg grenediers. Both were taken prisoner when Hong Kong fell.
-We breached the Gothic line in Italy. With our 1st infantry and 5th armoured divisions.

Sorry 'bout that.. was under the mistaken belief that the Commonwealth meant the colonies of the British Empire plus Britain itself. Looking back it's quite a stupid mistake.. seeing how the Commonwealth Games happened not so long ago.
