    Default Senate

Is anything else planned to extend the senate to make them a larger role in the Romani game, or will the cursus honorum and class be it? Since from what I understand they were wary of foreign expeditions, could a influence bonus be added to reflect whether they were a senate puppet, or whether their one of the generals who greatly expanded the power of rome?

Also, was there any historical accuracy to the senate missions in RTW? Did the senate mandate any sort of military action or involve themselves greatly in the military portion of Roman history? There's the triumph's, but that seems to be it for the representation of a large part of Roman life. I did a search and saw how what one wanted to do was limited, but are there any simpler alternatives available?

I would have thought that the senate was involved in the military side of Roman affairs since they were the government of Rome and made strategic decisions. Surely they were the ones to decide where and when to send in the army.

I'm not sure how else they could be represented in the game as you essentially are the senate. The decisions you make represent the decisions of the senate.

I don't think there's much from the vanilla senate that is similar to the actual one. I'm fairly sure they wouldn't order you to blockade the port of a neutral state half way across the med for 6 months, then have you atttack a town in gaul. I think they may have been a little less random at least and only given orders for war if they were actually at war with someone.

Until the end of the Republican period the Senate was the effective government of Rome. They were the "Upper House" to the Tribal Assembly's "Commons." It wasn't until the rise of Ceasar that individual Generals actually became powerful enough to start making demands of the Senate, with the exception of Marius and to a lesser extent Sulla.

The RTW engine has it's limits though. The Senate needs to be scraped off for more gameplay and entertainment...

Too bad you couldn't play the Senate in RTW.

What does it matter? They couldn't construct any temples so what would be the point?
