problems starting game

Hello, i tried installing EB yesterday and have been having problems ever since. I've reinstalled the game at least 3 times and fixed most of the problems with the help of this forum. Now when i try to start the game the starting screen comes up and then an error message that says: Error:filename does not exist éÖã? with a box at the end. What am i doing wrong?

Sounds like you're installing over a version of RTW later than the 1.2 patch (note: the RTW Gold set comes pre-patched to 1.5/1.6). Visit europabarbarorum.com - in the patches section, there's a link to the zipped version of the 1.2 patch. Download and install it over your RTW directory, then reinstall EB. That *should* work.

I downloaded the patch you told me to, installed it over my directory, and then when I tried to run rome the title screen came up and then it crashed to the desktop. I haven't reinstalled EB yet, It's the vanilla version that is having the problem.
