Thread: I walk and shoot photos without using viewfinder
solypsist 00:44 04-30-2006
so I strapped my camera around my neck and against my chest and walked down 5th Ave. to Rockefeller Center, clicking at whatever caught my fancy and hoping I got it in the frame. i didn't worry about keeping level or anything, nor did i break stride (i walk pretty fast) when i took a shot.

and in case you're wondering why i did this, i was praqcticing some "training" for situations when i want to shoot pics but have to keep my head down and/or move quickly under certain conditions.

I would never be able to take pictures that good without stopping. Nice shots there.

Nice shots. Why do you need to not stop walking when shooting? Is this for Iraq?

While I'm not completely positive on the point and sort of feel like echoing Csar's post, there are some nice shots in there. The ones in your 4th post especially make 5th Avenue seem an interesting place.

Whats with the English flag on pics 6 & 7? Just intrigued. Looks a bit out of place with all the Stars and Stripes around it.

Excellent work, soly. You have a really good eye and a style of composition that wll serve you well in a more 'journalistic' setting in Iraq. I love the quirkiness you saw and recorded (like the dog). Gives a real flavour of the day.

I'm not sure it is our flag, due to the fact that the top right corner of it is sky blue.

Amazingly well-focused shots for the camera just bouncing along on your chest. Are you reaching up to click the shutter, or using one of those 2'-3' long corded remotes, to keep your hands free?

I'll work on that while you're gone. Tuesdays we have "farmer's market", and Fridays "Cruisin' Grand" (50s/60s cars parading), with lots of pedestrians. Other times its a ghost town.

Maybe more interesting if Tachi did a walking tour of the so-called Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego. Lots to see there, and more californi-esque.

.
You're doing that without a viewfinder walking. If I dare compare what I do with one, the posometre turned on and stopping then I should never handle a camera again.

I like them, and you can see that they weren't focused, still, pretty good.
