Unhappy MTW question; CTD, driver issue

So, i joined this forum to ask a question about my MTW performance. It loads, plays the intro in full with all bells, but hen crashes to desktop when it should show the menu.

The various sites, threads and the likes suggest my drivers are too new and that MTW needs older driver to play. It makes sense, as MTW did play on this PC, but I believe it did with the current drivers!!

I have a Dutch Windows XP version, but will need some serious pants holders if MTW actually crashes for lack of an English version of XP.

    So, any suggestions?

Sorry to be posting here, but it seems to be the only place where I can post.

    Marune,

I understand that it can playback the intro video without any deformations, skips or abnormalities, right? That disqualifies any codec related problem.

I don't think some new driver issue would prevent you from playing MTW. However I'm concerned that you may have updated your drivers without uninstalling first one. This can create problems, especially when jumping to a new series of driver set (such as from Nvidia Forceware 6x.xx to 7x.xx.)

If not, Windows is an OS that fattens like a dirty pig over time. The system directories get full of irrelevant .dll files, your registry fills with invalid references, your HD gets defragmanted and on and on..This is the issue that I'm counting on.

Please tell us what version of driver you are using in order to make sure myself that it must not have any problem with MTW. Oh and look for a text file named "error.." or "err.." or "log" or "startup.." under your MTW installation folder. If there are any, they should be including error logs of the game, so that as soon as you paste them here, we'll be more of help.

Finally I have to say that if it's been some time since you installed your Windows, formatting your system and installing fresh OS and drivers will let MTW run as good as a greased machine.

Does it ever get to the menu screen, or never ?

You should take a look at this thread, I contains some great advice and might just solve your problem.

and after that, take a look at this one ( the threads give almost the same information )

And no, MTW doesn't crash because of the Dutch XP version - believe me.

I shall edit this post with the earlier mentioned link(s).
