I'm finally gonna get a laptop that is powerful enough to run R:TW. I've been waiting for a year dammit.

    I have a few questions. Here are my specs for my new laptop;

    1.83 Ghz CPU
    1GB Ram
    256mb Geforce Video Card

How will the game run on my laptop? Will I be able to play it on full settings?

Also when I play what difficulty should I play it on? Should I play it on expert level to make up for the AI stupidty in battle mode?

I've been waiting for a YEAR to play this game!

There's a nice online site that will tell you how well your computer will run Total war:

    http://www.systemrequirementslab.com

There are two difficulty settings: one for the campaign and one for the battle.

The battle difficulty basically alters the AIs stats - I like medium, as then the match ups are historic. Others prefer hard or very hard for tougher battles.

The campaign difficulty basically alters the AIs resources - on very hard, they get big lump sums that allow them to keep fielding large armies. I like that setting, but others find it tedious.

Make sure you patch the game and it is probably worthwhile reducing the bandit spawn rate - I find it very tiresome to keep fighting tiny stacks. (Edit a text file descr_strat.txt and change the bandit_spawn parameter to 100 or so).

hi Durian, welcome to the game Looks like you've been around for a while so all advice is probably unnecessary.

Difficulty is definitely a personal perference. I prefer playing hard campaign, hard battles. Very hard battles are not terribly fun since the AI factions get huge morale boosts and become quite difficult to rout.

    Best of luck!

The video card.. What kind is it? (6800+ works a blast with RTW)
"Cry, the beloved country, for the unborn child that is the inheritor of our fear. Let him not love the earth too deeply. Let him not laugh too gladly when the water runs through his fingers, nor stand too silent when the setting sun makes red the veld with fire. Let him not be moved when the birds of his land are singing, nor give too much of his heart to a mountain or a valley. For fear will rob him of all if he gives too much."

Geforce Go 7900. Think it will be fast enough?

Thanks for the advice. I'm not clear on how the system requirements lab work. Do I run it while playing R:TW?

No, just click the "Can you run it button" and then select RTW as the product. It will check you computers specs and compare them with the required and the recommended benchmarks.
