    Default Modelling

this is a shogun style watchtower
they used to be either side of the gates in original shogun

this is a display of the walls and gates that will be in the mod,
you may not see them all in campaign
but they will be available for custom maps
(when they get destroyed they remain shogun style - i solved the animation problem too)

also i have a multitude of shogun buildings (must make a screenie for you tomorrow)

    oki

i will make the screenie of all the buildings and eye candy later

had an idea and now running with it

    TOWERS for the castles,

and here's what the anims look like as you tear it down

5 more sets of towers to make,

they i am sure i'll have another bright idea

one warning when you assault castles in the final version - some of the walls have archers, some do not, you cannot tell which is which until they start shooting - or not, as the case may be.
(there are 2 versions of each wall and gate - 1 with archers, 1 without, but a little trick in the text files allows the name you see on the campaign map to be identical for both types, you can tell them apart easily in the map editor)

    oh yes,

    almost forgot

    Watchtowers (set of 3)

EDIT just so you dont sit there wondering what are the french doing in the mod??
i do my modelling in a standard UNmodded copy of VI - mainly so i dont confuse myself...

    Lookin' Good

I hope map makers will leave the archers out. Something that has always bothered me, as it gave more men to the fortress holder. But maybe I just don't understand all of the balances in castle warfare (am only a field general ).

here is the latest version of a watchtower
will probably discard the others and just have this
    (castle towers will remain)

it is easy to see in the editor which walls and towers have archers, and which do not.

in an online battle where the castle has archers the defender is supposed to accept a lower florins/koku level.

in the campaign game the castle's will have archers.

armed towers are only weakly armed, 4 instead of the usual 10 archers,
armed walls are a little tougher,
the GATES are weaker in hit points, to encourage people to go through the gate,
but walls can be knocked down, to allow them to go through the wall if the defenders are being stubborn.

Units in a castle have an advantage anyway - they cannot retreat, if they do they rally almost instantly and then fight to the death,

so i too hope that in online battles we only see unarmed castles used.

In the campaign, castles cost money and should provide a defensive capability. The attacker should need more men than the defender. I would say a large castle would require about 2:1, and a fortress more than that. You can use these SP castles in MP if you give the attackers more men depending on the size of the castle. We could also make some non-shooting or minimally shooting castles for MP where you try to play them at equal odds.

    DAMAGE CLASS CHANGES

overall loot points have been increased,
this will help the Mongols when we bring them into the campaign.

Sound effects used for classes have been adjusted,

SE_BUILDING_WALL_COLLAPSING_WOOD1 (a loud medium duration effect)
SE_BUILDING_WALL_COLLAPSING_WOOD2 (a loud short duration effect)
SE_BUILDING_FORT_COLLAPSING_WOOD (a loud long duration effect)
SE_WOODEM_BUILDING_COLLAPSE (a moderate short duration effect)

some classes are unused, others have been reassigned and modified

details sent for testing, unimportant to this thread
