    Default General Unit?

Just out of curiousity, what actually confirms the bodyguard of a general in BI? I noticed in my WRE campaign that one of my generals had an archer unit as his bodyguard. I nkow this isn't the case with all generals though, so what made this specific person not have the German bodyguard unit? No, he was not a captain

Gratianus Flavius, right? That was a bug. He should have had a unit of Imperial German Bodyguards but they forgot to put one in his army so he had to make do with archers. I thought they fixed that in 1.6, but if not then I'm sure BugFixer deals with it.

Yeah that was a bug. They fixed it in the latest patch. Normally all family members of all factions have those mounted warriors. Might I add that barbarian bodyguards in BI are extremely powerful and will crush most opposition. Sassanid ones too.

I think the way it happens is that in descr_strat, the first unit defined after the general's name and traits with the sam co-ordinates becomes his bodyguards, and generals born thereafter would have whichever unit has the general_unit or general_unit_upgrade attributes. I'm pretty sure that's the way it works but you'd probably be better off asking a member of a mod team such as EB since they would have to know that kind of thing in order to define their own generals' units.

I saw a peasant general today. (RTW V1.5 No mods)

He was knocked down by one chariot, trampled by the horses pulling another, then run over by a chariot itself...then he got up.

Ive seen an Eastern Infantry version before

Since you've mentioned that, the RTR generals are spearmen as well. Oh, they have portraits and all, and are characters, but the actual unit is a spearman. In the same stack, they have a general's unit without a general too.
