Well, that's flat out wrong. Scarborough sounds confused- as Ive said, requesting and recieving calling records from telcos without judicial oversight is pretty standard procedure for law-enforcement... Im not sure whether these people are just dumb, or trying to drum up ratings- either way, they're not laying out the facts.it breaks FCC laws
As to Gingrich, Ive given up on him long ago. From what Ive heard from him, he's been criticizing the administration for quite awhile and is mulling a presidential run. The way he started the "earmark" ball rolling, Im seriously beginning to doubt that he was ever the small-government conservative he made himself out to be (dont get me wrong- Bush sure as hell isnt either).
Either way, Gingrich and Scarborough are clearly talking crap in the excerpt quotes- gathering phone records is legal, has had judicial review and was most recently reinforced in the Patriot act (see National Security Letters).
Now, you can try to argue that gathering call records should be made illegal, but to say it is currently illegal doesnt jive with reality.
