Thread: Thanks!

    Default Thanks!

After it was discovered (by Black Crow) that in 1.2 building complexes could "branch out" depending upon factions and all sorts of other variables, a lot of new doors were opened to ways for modding RTW buildings. You could have some factions have access to some levels, but not to others, and the game recognized them all. Very nice ideed.

Also very complex building requirements could be used to limit what types of units anyone wanted to be able to be recruited in a give province. You could limit them now upon a set of reforms that take place (scripted placement of buildings) and upon any buildings the players chose to build in the province. Lots of new doorways and complex systems could result. If the recruitment was really complex, the units' names might not appear correctly on the building browser window (for the "Muster Field" building card, for example), but the units all worked fine and the recruitment was good and it worked correctly in all other respects.

But in 1.5, some new "tweaks" were added! New features! Suddenly if you start skipping levels (making one faction be able to branch out and build another variant for a building, then make another level buildable by a different one), you get error messages and the game won't load. Error messages like this one: "Building DB error - faction X has gap in building prior to X (unavailable at level zero)." Oops! It now suddenly requires factions to be present in the skipped levels, and sometimes building requirements are also required to be present in multiple levels and not skipped. With a building complex limit of 64, now all those other options and alternatives start being much more restricted - throw those 1.2 building options out folks! It can be gotten around sometimes (seems like through sheer luck), but not always.

And additionally, in 1.5 some new feature was added to make units' names in the building rosters 'clickable' and it would take you to the unit. Oh, but sorry, if you have a unit that has building requirements in the unit recruitment line, then the game will immediately CTD if you click on the building to view it.

    So. Just a personal thanks...

Well, gee, Teleklos - I'm glad someone's happy with it. For me, it's turned out to be rather inconvenient in terms of scripting reforms for Res Gestae. It's a bit tough to do those without building conditionals really. I found a way to make it work in the end - but I must say that if I hadn't been pre-warned by tireless modders such as yourself, Dol Guldur, Monkwarrior and LestaT then I may have become frustrated and given up. I guess I'm just lucky that my role here means I get such a wide coverage of the latest developments in the modding world - maybe I just try a bit harder to spread the word and ensure that this sort of info is retained and categorised and not lost. But I digress...

Is it me, or this is a very good way of saying "F*** CA"?
I sense this as very powerful sarcasm.

I am certainly not saying anything crude at all. Please don't put words in my mouth. By putting into new patches incredibly difficult things that mess up parts of the game that were working fine already and that really provided more uniqueness to the different factions and buildings, it actually makes modding *more* interesting and challenging! Everyone loves a good challenge! Just something else to be happy about.

    LOL

Who knows what treasures Alexander will bring? Maybe a new feature where you can view *all* recruitment conditionals in the building scrolls? ;)

And that is SUCH a useful feature! Why fans are always telling us, "Who needs better AI! What we really want are even more obscure, arcane references in the unit recruitment screens! And if you could only get them to CTD the game too? Why......Nirvana!"

On that note though - isn't there some way you can get regions to display all the data associated with them (HRs etc?) in -game? I thought I read somewhere that there was...
