    Default Aliens vs Preator 2

I'm thinking on getting myself AvP2, am interested in SP. Anyone here tried this? Is it worth the time & money?

It's a good laugh, if I remember, but then, I like any FPS with a flamethrower...

AvP2 is worth the money. Especially playing marine is a good laugh. But the alien and predator campaigns is well done, the missions are a lot cooler than AvP, like alien you start as facehugger and develop slowly into an alien.

The anklebiter mission is really hard but very cool.

Bit dated now but that will mean its cheap! Its a lot of fun if your into that whole genre. The multiplayer is not bad either, survivor mode where one person is an alien, and every person that gets bitten turns into aliens, is bag loads of fun. When your all alone hiding in a corner with 20 human controlled aliens running around for you...gah!

    Laugh?

That game is responsible for me starting to like survival/horror games. I mean that you'll activly kill every (big) bug that sets of your motion detector says something.

It's best to avoid restarting the mission (use a save instead) after that you get your gear back, as it will change your weapons. And the smart gun is a much relaxing weapon than the gauss rifle(?) (and you can still complete the levels without much problems). This is for the first time through to increase the scare effect.

The alien and predator SP isn't as scary but still good.

So yeah it's worth the time & money. Not sure about the expansion though (Edit: as I haven't played it).

And yeah I know that "laugh" is sarcastic here

We are all aware that the senses can be deceived, the eyes fooled. But how can we be sure our senses are not being deceived at any particular time, or even all the time? Might I just be a brain in a tank somewhere, tricked all my life into believing in the events of this world by some insane computer? And does my life gain or lose meaning based on my reaction to such solipsism?

Definitely get AvP2. Single player as marine is horrificly scary and atmospheric, while the multiplayer experience was the single most disturbing and horrifying experience i've ever known.

    Pure brilliance.

AvP2 is worth the money for sure. I love playing as Predator with all his gadgets n' stuff, but the Marine and Aliens are extremely fun too. You won't be dissapointed.

I always found playing as a marine or an alien far more enjoyable than as a predator - the predator is after all just a tank - armed and armoured up enough to plough through anything. The others require a smidgen more thought, though - the marines have more than enough firepower on hand to blast anything into little bits of goo, and the aliens. Well, the aliens are actually a laugh...

Great game, especially in MP. The three different races add a lot of depth and tactics to the game. For example you have to use different approaches to deal with marines than you'd use with predators. Especially the Alien is just a pleasure to play in MP. Speed, maneuverability and sheer power while at the same time being so horribly vulnerable to enemy firepower. It really forced you to use your advantages to the max.

I actually find the predator to be horribly undergunned for a tank. Of course some of the homing weapons are rather deadly, but overall the weaponry of the predator is not just that practical. Also they seem to be heavily reliant on their cloaking ability. A predator that has it turned off is definately a rather easy target, especially for marines at long ranges.

In SP I'd recommend the Marine and Alien missions. They're good fun and are actually damn challenging. The Predator can be initially fun, especially sniping marines with the speargun or gutting them with wristblades, but it gets a bit boring to be honest.

Anyways it's a great game that I wholeheartedly advice you to get.

I got AvP 2 and its expansion pack. I can honestly say that it is worth the money.

The Marine campaign is great walking around paranoid about being jumped, getting twitchy at the sounds. Laughing when a blip on the motion tracker turned out to be a swaying chain, or when what looks like an alien's head in that bit of wall that just got blown away in fact turns out to be a pipe!

The Predator campaing instantly got me into the mood of the character, running around the trees in stealth mode zooming in on chatting marines with the helmet and jumping from the branches with spear in hand to take his head off and roar when I got it...

Alien Campaign was great as well, starting life from a facehugger trying to avoid the patrols to bursting out of someone's chest and keeping a low profile as a chest burster until you grow. The final crawling climbing and sprinting around to kill your enemies is real fun.

    A classic game.

It is a ton of fun. I didn't like the early alien missions, but they are a ton of fun later on. It was kind of ironic because the noises the alien makes when attacking would always creep me out for some reason, despite the fact that me disemboweling a guy caused them.

The predator missions are also really well done, though I tended to feel invincible as long as I had a combi-stick and spear-gun.

As others have mentioned the Marine missions are the best, if only because they strike a bargain between the weakness and need to close with the enemy felt in the alien campaign, and overall impetuosity felt during the predator campaign.

Marine campaign is awesome, very scary! Didn't care for the other parts though. It also wins the 'worst weapon pacement' award, you get the sniper rifle 10 seconds before the game ends.

Did anyone tra out the expansion? Any opinions on that?

Um that's the second time you'll get it. The first time its 4-5 enemies left on the level (and you won't keep the rifle).

Well the sniper rifle also isn't that useful....The Smartgun, and pulse rifle are far better most of the time. The only times I really used it were when I cheated to get it and wanted to kill everything in one shot, without hurting myself.

It was probably thrown in as more of a multiplay weapon since there are very few places where the sniper rifle is the weapon of choice in the campaign.

It's definately the nastiest weapon in multiplayer with the flamethrower.

Oh, god, I remember this game... the Marine levels made me so ****in' paranoid. The worst part isn't even listening to the motion sensor- it's waiting to listen to the motion sensor, just waiting for those awful beeps that tell you that something's a-comin'. I tend to get easily immersed in games as well, so every once in a while, when I came to the breaking point- seeing three or four aliens usually did it-, I would actually flip out, and run backwards firing madly, doing all I could to keep from yelling and screaming all manner of explitives and wordless noises in the meantime. Very bad game for anyone with high blood pressure.

The expansion is also quite good, it deals with the story of what happened to the other Hive and the destroyed pod on the research base that is referred to in the main Game campaign.

The Ability to play the Predalien is very fun (Marine and predator also have new weapons I think) but getting into the campaign I found rather hard from the off. Very hard to sneak around as a facehugger when there are Predators with Shouldercannons around.

All in all it ties up many loose ends in the original story and gives you a better perspective on it all.
