Default New names for family members

Is it possible to edit the files for the roman family members, so that there is only around 40 options for them? right now, im getting 100 of names of people i have never heard about. What i would like is around 40 familier names, like cornelius, licinius, julius etc to appear all the time. and never have Domitius Receptus Marcipor appear ever again

The point of that being? They are perfectly legitimate Roman names.. Domitian was an Emperor as well.

This is an alternate version of history if you like, not real history repeating itself.

The files you need to change are data\descr_names.txt and data\text\names.txt.

Be warned! These files are extremely sensitive - even the smallest of errors will cause CTDs. You would do well to find and read the character names tutorial before doing this, and backup both files before making any changes.

Oh - and for EB the Roman names are listed under "faction: seleucid" in the descr_names.txt file.

k thnx. And i do know that all the names are legimate. I just want my generals to be named after the famous families. A lot cooler to have Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus than Appius Recpetus Saturninanus Corpulentus

Well it's just going to be a three word name. Anyway, Saturninanus is named after a god. Surely that's better than being named after another pathetic mortal?

c'mon, u know what i mean. I just want my family members to be part of the more known patrician and plebeian families from the early and late republic. and btw, i believe Saturninus is named after saturn, and Saturninaus an addopted Saturninus

Ok, i have edited the files, now just 1 question: Do i have to add Africanus, Macedonicus etc under the surnames?

Makedonicus, Gallicus, Britannicus, Germanicus, Dacicus and Africanus are all hard earned cognomens, from generals who win triumphs against the certain factions. By the way, it should be Ivlivs, not Jvlivs.

The thing is, starting names have to be very delicately rearranged then in not only the name files but also the descr_strat.txt files too. It's a big hassle. I handled name files mostly, but I've got way too much going on constantly with the next build - working on carth building images and text today among other things.

The following names are in the descr_strat.txt file but not in your list:

    Amvlivscvrtivs
    Decimvsbebivs
    Galerivscaesivs
    Oppivsbrvccivs
    Spvrivsclitvmnvs
    Camerivs
    Canidivs
    Catvlvs
    Civilis
    Crotilo

You'll need to either include them in your descr_names.txt file, or replace them in the descr_strat.txt file.
