Yo I am dumb, I can't get screenshots to work. Hit the print screen button and it churns out a tga. What opens a tga? I have some stupid MSN program form back when I had MSN that I can't use so I tried a bunch of image programs and none of them worked. What opens tga so that I can save as a jpeg? The tga won't display in the programs I have.

Try Xnview limitedwhole. It's the best free viewer/browser out there. Just remember that there are two modes in that software: viewing (looking at pictures) and browsing (perusing with thumbnails and a preview window beside it). Go to View>Layout when in browser mode to pick the best layout. :)

To adjust the size of your file, when saving, click options to adjust quality. If you are in browser mode, just double click on the file and the file will pop in tab (just like firefox).

You can minimise the game after you take the shot open paint and just "paste" and then save as Jpeg

Howies Quick Screen Capture is a brilliant piece of free software for taking screenshots quickly and easily, and it saves them all to a folder for you to save all that pasting etc.

I am not one for mods or downloading programes. But I do like the odd screenshot or two. Ive used MSPaint for years. Seeing the above recommendations I downloaded and tried Howies Quick SC.

Download and install went fine. Programme worked well. A good choice of preferences allowing you choose what file type each picture will be and where to save it.

After a trial run I used it in earnest. Taking many pictures without alt-tabbing to go see what they looked like. Worked a treat. Saved me time during the playing session.

24 hours later I went to look at my haul of pictures.

    48 Pictures taken
    - 1 was black screen. No image.
    - 2 were partially drawn RTW pictures..buildings missing.
    - 45 were fine

Then the realisation that I would to need to rename them. Scrolling down the list to select the image, remember what it was about and when, save as 'new name'. Delete old image. Took me some time sorting it out.

In summary...the Howies Quick SC programme was helpful but had its downsides.

I went back to using mspaint but have left HowieQuick SC on the PC as my daughter likes it.

I don't think any screen capture program allows you to name them as they are captured. That would require a sort of override of whatever program is on the screen with a prompt for what filename you want it to be.

I use a program named GrabClipSave which is free and names the pictures with the name of the program that it captured the screen from(plus a few numbers) but I haven't seen any program that asks you for a name each time it saves a picture. You can change the filename before you take each picture but that requires going into the program's little settings screen and changing it before each screen capture.

Also, if you're using Windows you can just change the name. You don't have to make a new image and delete the old one. Right click-> Rename on the image and you can replace it with whatever you want. Even easier, you can hit F2 when an image is selected to change the name.

    Hi Krauser

Great minds think alike. As I typed the above message I was thinking the same. Why not list the files and rename them.

Because I take so many, perhaps as many as 100 per busy turn, I name them with date, then a sequential number, then description.

If any one is having trouble with screenshots feel free to ask for help via this thread or via personal message if you prefer. More pictures the better. !

I like Fraps, its a nice little program.

For image work I use PSP.
The demo is fine but for a few pounds you can get the full version. Its cheap and does most stuff that I want.
