IIRC at the next game in the US the home fans made a point of cheering the Canadian anthem.
If you could provide a link so we can all understand the context?

Well, the thread I'm talking about was on the old Thunderpuck forums which are now defunct, however here is a link off ESPN

Pregame anthem booing was a hot-button issue in sports shortly after the beginning of the war in Iraq, with fans in Chicago's Wrigley Field, Montreal's Bell Centre and other arenas booing their neighbors' anthem from 2002-04.

If search back a few years, you'll find a thread in the tavern about a bus full of American schoolkids being attacked in Canada (Montreal again IIRC). Not to go over the whole Iraq thing again, but tensions were high and people were at each others throats over it all. I do remember that it was Canadiens fans who did it first, in response some US fans booed Oh Canada, some cheered it.

Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."
