Thread: Quantity or Quality?

    Default Quantity or Quality?

When using up the denarii for MP, should I choose many average units (i.e. 3 unupgraded legionary cohorts) to get a better chance of flanking with, or less excellent units (i.e. 1 Urban cohort w/chevrons or armouring)? What do ya'll think? Is there any different strategy for choosing cavalry?

    cheers.

Don't really play RTW, only BI. But I'd go for Urbans. Remember, all they have to do is hold as RTW is about routing the enemy, not killing it. Then just use the Urbans as an anvil and hammer with your cavalry.

I like a hard infantry base, but with cavalry I would rather have 2 roman cavalry then 1 praetorian any day. The more men charging into the rear of the enemy, the more likely they are to rout.

In R: TW nowadays, the fashion 'superman' units is spread (It shooed me off the game), and that means you get like an Urban, and upgrade it +3 weapon/armor, and it will beat any other unit in comes close to.. Just too unrealistic for me, bye bye!! (Still the fashion isn't around in BI, which makes up for a cool game, though, their's always only me hanging around on BI!!)

It's not a secret that less better soldiers win with big but weak army.
In 1.6 roman urban cohort is like tank - almost undefeated.

I take it you mean 1.5, and yes that's true, which unfortunately made RTW a hell after it was heaven.

Anyhow, technically x-danger, 1.6 is exactly the same as 1.5, it just additionally patches BI.

But yeah, ventured over to RTW the other day, being a total noob I just went Scipii (always good to get an overpowered faction when your new :D) got some rubbishy archers, then a mix of praetorian/urban cohorts and of course praetorian cavalry. My enemy, however had like 5 upgraded urbans + a few archers and cav. Even though I mauled a unit of urbs with pilliar (his pillar just went on my left over archers) he still beat me, just couldn't take his down with all his upgrades. (though I took enough of his army down for Foxx's leftover spartans/armoured hoplites to take down rest of his army :))

So ye, it seems on 1.5 quality owns quantity.

No,I do not m8. I Played 15K Standed Money for Months straight, many months, before 12.5K became Standed, then it did, people start calling me a noob for using 15K,not 12.5K, so I said "hell with this" and went playing 20K+ and I'm having more fun..

Not really, 1.5 is Rome total war, and 1.6 is Barbarian Invasion 0-o

Yeah, but if you download 1.6 patch for BI, then, if you notice it'll also patch up RTW to the same version as 1.5 patch does.

It will yes, but that doesn't make it RTW 1.6, but RTW 1.5. (I really don't think we should be discussing this, a little bit off-topic, and not worth the discussion anyway ;) )

    i host 16k games every night...no imbalance.

    learn to play?

pleny of romans to go around
And when the brazen cry of achilles
Was heard among the trojans, all their hearts
Were troubled, and the full-maned horses whirled
The chariots backward, knowing griefs at hand...
