Default First Canadian Female Soldier Death Since WWII

EDIT: Could a mod please change Canadian to the correct spelling in the title.

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Canada suffered its first female combat death since the Second World War on Wednesday when a woman soldier was killed during fighting with Taliban insurgents in southern Afghanistan, the military said.
Stuff like this usually doesn't get me down, but this one hit a particular note for some reason.

Comes with the territory, I'd say.
"Let us remember that there are multiple theories of Intelligent Design. I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Call me sexist or whatever, but I don't think they should let women in combat zones

They're too small of targets. Gives your side an unfair advantage.

Ice I dont see the point in posting this I mean I'm sorry that she was killed but no real point but to mourn a dead Canadian lady. Or that Canada hasn't been involved in a war since WW2

[Not wanting to drag this off-topic, but for one, if I remember rightly, Canadian
forces were engaged in heavy fighting a number of times in the wars in Bosnia
and Croatia. I wouldn't be surprised if they've been involved militarily outside the
Balkans and the Middle East before then.]

As for the death of the Canadian in Afghanistan, I think posting about it has as
much of a 'point' as does posting about any other lives lost in these wars. If it
means something to the poster, that's reason enough to mention it.

Condolences to her family and to all the other families, whatever the sex of the deceased.

We've sent to troops to Korea and Iraq 1. Those were real wars. We've sent troops to numerous peace keeping missions like Bosnia, Cyprus, and Somolia. In fact the fact that we had troops in Bosnia and Cyprus and sent the res of our active forces to Afghanistan is how Martin kept us out of Iraq 2.

It really does seem unfair that a man dying in his country's army seems less important than a woman. True, women dying in combat is rare. But still its like that woman Lynch I think her name was who was captured in Iraq and the massive operation to rescue her. There would not be as much attention or resources if it was a man.

It should not matter wheather it was a man, woman, white, black, asian etc, they died in a war and so should be respected all the same.
    My condolences to her family.

She was the first Canadian woman to die in combat since WWII. It's news worthy.

Probably what the 309 Germans killed by Lyudmila Pavlichenko and the 308 killed by Alexeyevna Lkovskaya thought as well. Their opinion is probably shared by the 12 Germans pilotes shot down by Lilya Litvyak, and by the 11 of Katya Budanovna

Can it hold a weapon ?
Is it willing to use it to kill humans ?
If both check positive, that's pretty much all the qualities you need in a combatant. Everything else is really just decoration (well, and rationalization but let's not get too complicated).
