There is absolutely NO better than Internet Download Manager (IDMan). Its click capturing capability overwhelms any others on the market.
If you ask for an alternative, Metaproducts' Mass Downloader is a very good one as well. It was my favorite before IDMan was released. They also have a "light" version of that commercial download manager, which is free, Download Express -one I can recommend as being a freeware alternative.
Thanks for that, seems to be doing nicely.
but can anyone do better

Gentlemen, please -if not exactly- let's assume that ZombieFN 's question was about download managers, not P2P sharing softwares. In order to keep our information exchange "clean", I kindly request that the following contributions in advance to be omitting P2P recommendations.

Well of course P2P softwares has such legitimate stands saying that the program is coded for peer-to-peer file sharing, they do not take blame over what is being transferred. However reality is in the open -the main reason behind using P2P programs is the transfer of illegal stuff.
By the way the link you gave here in the Frontroom is an mp3 of a copyrighted material. Lordi and the other Eurovision '06 contestants' songs are released on a CD, which assures that the mp3 is copyrighted material -you see how people use file share/upload opportunities ?
I'm behind my decision about the editing of your message, please take my seniors' word about this if you want to pursue further -they will surely bring your post back in case I am wrong with my decision.

Um, everyone's aware that a lot of video is now being released on Bittorrent, right? So it's nto a bad idea to keep a client handy. I'd post a link, but it would probably get edited.
err I don’t want P2P sharing software just something to download better than the standard windows. Nothing illegal or anything that can be implied as illegal thanks.

There's no standard windows downloading thing. Each browser has its built in download applet (IE) or manager (Mozilla, Firefox, Opera etc.). I let the browser do the small jobs (+/- 1 MB) but use FlashGet (shareware) for biggies. One major advantage of FlashGet that -at least GetRight lacks- is "chasing down" script links (cgi, asp, php etc.) to reach the true download link. It can also use real madia/windows media etc. streaming protocols in addition to http and ftp, thus download supposedly streaming media.
ADD: It can also pretend to be anything!

LeftEyeNine is precisely correct about org policy regarding p2p. Any such discussion must be via 'off-the-board' communications (PM, IM, etc), never on the publicly-viewable forum pages. Org staff will continue to remove any public discussion, links or images of p2p software, however benign it might be seem.Originally Posted by LeftEyeNine

Wow, Lemur, that was a very nice link, thanks for sharing![]()
I was sort of making a point, LEN. This talk about how all P2P is kiddiez trading warez and pr0n is behind the times. P2P is being used for legit purposes, by major coporations and artists. It is not tacit piracy to have a bittorrent client on your PC.
There's lots more free, openly licensed material here. Not all of it is distributed on bittorren, but most of it is.

And the point is taken.
The day will come (within a year, I predict) when p2p technology will be legitimized, and indeed welcomed by the world's content creators and publishers. I look forward to that day, for many reasons.
But that day is not today. Today p2p, in the wild, is the illegitimate step-child of piracy - and touting, displaying and discussing it in a publicly-viewed forum puts the forum owners at risk for litigation, and can be seen as facilitating the theft of content, and denial of rightful compensation to the content creator(s).
So, for now, we do not, and will not, allow even the discussion of it in public.
Sorry for the interruption of this conversation. It seemed time (again) to make org policy clear.
Please carry on.![]()

I did not intend that. However I have a responsibility here -I have to think about the "big picture" rather than the little part illustrating "nice group of trees". One who knows about P2P usage already knows enough, that would be better being private. The previous posts I edited were both including P2P softwares, I sensed that the discussion was going astray, so that I had to take some precautions. Hope you and other fellows involved understand meOriginally Posted by Lemur

Kukri PM'd me and explained the full rationale of the policy, for which I'm very grateful. And I didn't mean to put words in your mouth, LEN, so please forgive me.
No I did not take it as something negative at all, the situation needed more clarification, so I explained it further. I'm glad that it's okay with you as wellOriginally Posted by Lemur
