Ok so it's Mongol light cav, and we all knew that it was coming but here's the desctiption from the .com

    Mongol Light Cav.
The Mongol Light Cavalryman is the mainstay of Mongol armies from Peking to Poland. They are very fast, equipped with axes and powerful bows, and are dangerous opponents both at a distance and in hand to hand combat. Their ferocity and determination are legendary.

    Go run with that

The mongols elite unit, deadly at range with their bows and then just as deadly at hth with axes. The most powerful and versatile unit in the game.Beware the mongol light cavalry rush.It also appears to be the last new unit in the game. The only sad part is now it appears we have to wait until May,for now.

If the Mongol light calvary is this deadly, just think of how hard it will be to destroy a entire army of heavy calvary.

The MLC unit has it all: speed, strong ranged attack, strong hth and high morale. This is a fearsome unit, and it's going to be almost impossible to counter on open ground.

They should have traps in this game.

They are still Light Cav. gound archers have longer range and smaller target profile. archers backed up by spearman should still work just fine. Then hand to hand with Yari cav will kick butt. axes not that awesome from horseback and lack of armor will get you kill very quickly, no matter how well you fight to the last man.
Just a thought. with so many people tweeking with the announcement of each new unit. have faith my son, of a blanced game.

Actually the Mongols did equip axes with them during that time.

Since they call the unit light cavalry, you can be sure there will be heavy cavalry, otherwise it would be just Mongol cavalry.

I'm trying to figure out how they're going to balance out these guys. My guess is their HTH will not be as strong as their archery and speed, despite what the .com blurb says.

Actually, the Community Site says this is their last new unit page. If this means they've introduced all the units, it's a bit of a disappointment. Trying to cram all the traditional characteristics of the Mongol cav into one unit seems like an oversimplification. That would explain the axes, though.

On the other hand, maybe there won't be any more new unit pages because of the site layout change they've promised for Friday. In that case, the series would continue in some other form on the new site. There can't be a lot of units left to introduce, though, so...

And they still haven't told us if the Mongols can shoot while moving! It's QT3 material, then

Hey, the Mongols did use foot Archers with huge bows that was superior to the English long bows..

I think Guyvii, is underestimating the import of what Puzz3D has pointed out..this unit has the potential to be the ubercavalry and indeed uberunit of the entire game, especially if they can fire arrows while moving!

Add in their high HtH rating and high morale with high speed and ability to pepper armies with arrows even better than CA do right now, what do you use to counter them?

YC may catch up to them but get shot full of holes on the way and then get smacked by (presumably) superior attack bonuses..

YS and YA should be effective against all cavalry types...if they can catch them in the first place or keep their pants dry while facing a charge or a flanking maneuver...

I won't even bother with WM and ND..so what can you counter with? Kensai? AT-AT's? Cow Launchers? Geisha?

    guyvii,

The original game is unbalanced. What is the basis of this "faith" you advocate? MLC: "very fast", "powerful", "dangerous", "legendary". I think they're trying to tell us something. If you have to use 2 or 3 units to counter one, doesn't that put you at a serious disadvantage?

    Dwimmerlaik,

I think the only way to defeat the Mongol Light Cavalry would be to hide Battlefield Ninja in their saddlebags.

I think they should add to the game: arrow shields (enabling palisades) and limited use of tiger trap-type trenches, walls and caltrops. All of the above were used during the time periods in question, I believe, and the look of shock on the Mongol Lt. Cav. when they hit that trench would be one for the Screenshot section!

do not forget that SA are probably still pretty effecitive against them as they are still a bigger target
