    Is it worth getting?
Absolutely, just reinstalled it the other day, still great. Can be finished in about a day too, as it is very short. A huge number of great mods for it too; the kung fu mod is one of the most accomplished ones i've seen (nowhere as good as EB of course)

No reason not to play it if you liked the second. Personally I liked the first a whole lot more(could be the wow factor because it was so fresh and the second is basicly more of the same), it doesn't take itselve so seriously and the shooting looks better imvho.

As already mentioned, Mafia has one of the best endings ever.

Ending on a similarly dismal note, I must also state that the PC game Nocturne also has one of the best endings ever.

I didn't like the endings for Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. You get a choice between 3 cutscenes that are only 30-seconds long. Not exactly an "ending" there in my view, especially not for an RPG that was so heavy on dialogue throughout the whole game. Great game otherwise, though.

For the same reasons, both KOTOR endings also suck a lot in my view.

I thought the Max Payne 2 ending was not very good. It should have had 2/3 more content/story heaped on top of it before it was released as a "full game".

I felt really bad for what happened to Vincent Gognitti though. That affected me way more than the "ending" did.

I've only played the first game, and i would agree normally
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
after such a great final level we get a cutscene of our heroes being cheered,(if you chose the light option) which kinda sucks really.

However, how does the first star wars film end? Great battle, lots of boom's, then some footage of farmboy and han being cheered... So in a way it keeps within the star wars setting. Still sucks though, I also was expecting more.

From what I understand, KotOR follows the Star Wars films in some things. The second ended akin to the Empire Strikes Back, on a somewhat bittersweet note (please understand, I'm talking about the original, cut ending, although the one that came with the game still has that note) ... it kinda makes me eager for N*3.

Couldnt agree more, i poured so much time and energy into that game, it was truly a fitting ending to a fantastic game.

The ending in Splinter Cell 1 kind of sucks, very boring if you ask me.

Super Metroid has a suprisingly emotional ending for a game with no dialogue.

Planescape: Torment has a highly emotional ending for a game with oodles of dialogue.

Both Freespace games had well done endings.

RE3 wasn't bad either. Heck of a finale with Jill and Nemesis.

And the Merge ending of Deus Ex was pretty cool.

There's an alternative ending? Damn, I'll need to replay it. Really liked the game, even if the storyline wasn't as fundamentally heart-wrenching as the first-you can't really top a man seeking revenge for his murdered wife and baby in terms of pathos. I loved the 'Dick Justice' TV show as well, it was a nice internal self-parody.

I can't believe no-one's mentioned the Ocarina of Time ending yet. That was truly moving, and made good use of the time-travel element of the plot. That bit with Link smacking the snot out of Ganon's skull, and the camera showing it from different angles, was super-cool as well.

Reason: Every part has given away chops of the story that you think everything is clear, but when the end of the game shows, it has just begun, and all you know is little bits of the huge puzzle.

I've always found MTW's endings also very satisfying, despite their simplicity.
