Thread: Playing the Rebels!

    Exclamation Playing the Rebels!

Here's an interesting one for you all. I'm currently playing on Vanilla VI a Polish campaign from early on hard (see pics thread) and i loaded up my Poland 1383 savegame to be greeted by the following

I seem to be controlling the rebels, and what on earth are Khazar Royal Cavalrymen?

I can build stuff in all the provinces, even Sahara!

    Sahara in Vanilla VI

So i decide to try and play them, i do an end year and all seems normal(ish). 1088 sees me attack the English in Wessex.

Note strange colouring on the army base.

Well i've captured Poland, Wessex, Northumbria and Georgia including taking command of the rebel armies! I managed to ransom the English king for about 11000 florins so i'm flush with cash too.

Nearest i've got to a king.

I have no king and so no heirs, i can't change the tax levels in any provinces and the loyalty is always 100%. I can build troops and when a province rebels (Naples did last year) i get to command the army!

Will keep playing to see where this goes and will see if i can turn the map rebel. Very odd but strangely very cool.

I think so, as well: it must be fun. Can you control and merge all colors of rebels? Can you build agents? To get other provinces to rebel as well?
This space is for sale. Anybody wanting to advertise little blue pills, pumping body parts or financial services that cost you a fortune may do it here for a small fee instead of packing my mailbox. Thank you.

Yes, i can merge the rebels of two different provinces. As for agents, i'm not sure yet i haven't got far enough in to be able to build them yet.

I have saved the game and it came up 'The Rebels 1087' when i first tried it. I have also noticed that some provinces gained buildings that i hadn't built which is odd, but then the whole thing is odd!

Is it possible to play the rebels with the -ian switch or am i the first to experience this?

Yea playing rebels can be fun :D Nice game so far. The BIG thing you have to watch out for is reamerging factions since you really have no defence against it. You likely will need to try to keep as many factions alive in single provinces if you want to avoid it entirely. You could try putting down spies but I don't know if it would affect loyalty.

Wow, that's pretty trippy. It'll be nice to have rebel generals like El Cid and William Wallace, though!

The one time I tried playing as the rebels I soon got frustrated by factions bribing all of my armies away from me. Rebel bribe costs are so low they could counter all my successful maneuvering just by passing a little cash under the table .

I tried playing the rebels once but quickly stopped. I realized that the rebels have no income - sure, you can get money from ransom and plundering, but you get no income from taxes, farming or trade. Can anyone else confirm this?

I play Byzantines (early xl) and I loaded game (1179) and I got the same as Diehard_TH . Luckyly I always use quick save and I continue as Byzantines, but I will try to play as rebels.

I played with rebels with .conan. cheat a couple of times. It was quite fun and I enyojed controlling Steppe cav (I trained some of them to valour 5 through battles) and Khazar Royal cav.
The center of my rebel state (played in Early) were Russian regions. I lead very successful campaign against the Poles and Hungarians on the west and Byz on the south. I prepared for the arrival of GH by training 30 assassins (hey, I know it's unfair, but that was the only way to keep my territories) and killed their khan. With new stacks of Mongol armies who went rebel I started expelling Byzantines from Minor Asia quickly (they remained on islands) and even gained one province from Turkish. On the western front I held Silesia strongly.
But, it seems Mongol Khan had a an under-aged heir who lead Mongol re-emmergence. Half of my armies joined the Mongols ( ) My power was greatly diminished and I was too disappointed to finish playing Rebels.

When playing rebels I usually just try and develop Ireland because it is isolated and therefore safe, and also develop Scotland, and sometimes Wales if the English are doing badly. The challenge is after beating the English it will be hard to expand from Britain (Usually I lose provinces outside of the British Isles so fast I end up just playing oddly coloured England as "rebels")

Seems i'm getting trade income in my game. Looks to be normal in all respects except i can't change the tax level (not a problem as they are all set at very high) and my king just has an error message for his name.

Where is the rebel capital ?

Meaning, where is your king located, and your heirs - if you even get those...

You don't get kings and heirs. IIRC, if you're playing a vanilla MTW, your "king" is called Ibrahim III (when you click on diplomacy button), although, of course, your king's unit doesn't exist.
If you're playing MTW:VI your king (again-when you click on diplomacy button) is called ##/!"# this label does not exist or something like that.
