    Default Transgression -- How? When?

Playing a VH/M Spanish campaign on Vanilla (okay, already...).

Julii land at Osca and mill around. Meanwhile, I'm sorting out forces and selling maps. I leave them alone, figuring they'll hit me eventually.

They attack, besieging Osca with a small force after landing a bigger one.

As it cycles back to my turn, I receive notification of my transgression against the Julii, for which all 4 Romani factions declare war.

What did I do? Fail to find the visitors a suitable time-share? Farted in their general direction? Failed to gift them my city when they arrived?

Game-wise of course, it does not matter. Nor did the betrayal of the Gauls on the subsequent turn -- all par for the course. I'm just wondering how I triggered a Rome gang D.O.W. by sitting there. I was hoping to defend against the Jollies and keep the others out of it for a time.

Now, given the game's usual parameters for Protectorate status or getting Romans to sue for peace, I'm at war until they are all dead with no hope of trade money from their provinces. pooh-rats.

If the Republic is united, Romans will all attack factions which have been attacked by other Romans.

Transgressions should only be bribing them or going to their territory. If you haven't done either, it must be some kind of bug.

In the basic game it'll still happen even if you are allied with them. The act of the Julii becoming at war (no matter who declares it) with Spain will break all Spanish alliances with the other roman factions. As each faction takes it's turn, it will declare war with everyone against whom the Julii are at war. The only times I've seen this work differently are after the roman alliance is broken up by the civil war or one becoming outlawed, or in the base 1.3 patch version which broke the roman diplomacy. It was fixed again in the 1.5 patch. I don't have BI, but I'm pretty sure it's different there.

There are times where I wish you could issue your own transgression warnings. I remember in the early stages of my Macedonian game, the Brutii (whom I was on good relations with) started milling around Thermon and Bylazora. What was I to do?

Eventually, I did a simultaneous attack on all their armies in my area. After the damage is done, I -get this- receive a transgression warning- from the Julii.
