I like EB's Ekdromoi Hoplites, Thorakitai, and Thureophoroi. They're great peltast killers and they are also great at flanking pike units. I also like all missile units, especially peltasts and numidian javelinmen.

my favorite Eb Units are:

3.Hypaspistai

I'm pretty enamoured with EB's Thorakitai Argyraspidai right now.
RTR's Ptolemiac Hypapistai were pretty sexy, too.

Being the ardent fan of Rome that i am... My favourite was always the heavy Roman infantry... Especially Hastati since they are the cheapest and always see the most action in any campaign of mine.
@Dayve i take it then you go for the old checkerboard attack? My triarii never see any action at all!
Anyways, are we allowed another fave? Cos the best looking unit IMO has to be the sacred band infantry. Lining up 10 units of solid, glistening silver against the desert sun...ahh...
edit- mind you the upcoming Thrakioi Peltastai (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=64604
look absolutley stunning, huge congrats to whoever skinned them.

Res Gesetae has some great looking units; especially the Seleukid Empire preview. I feel the urge to smack somebody when I look in that thread. They're that good-looking.

ah those flaming pigs ofcourse.
Illyrian Thureophoroi.
Though you guys haven't seem them yer (oh, but you will), my personal favourite, just from looks alone, have to be the Hye Sparapet - Armenian Generals. I cannot wait to see them ingame (they aren't quite in yet), they will be amazing.

I'm a big fan of all the Casse units, but I can't wait till we get the remodelled chariots. Having the old blue guys for my general always kinda kills the mood.
my favorite unit (for skin) are the getai phalangitai (i dont remember the correct name)
my hated unit (for skin) is a gallic unit (a sort of gallic centurion if i remember correct) when i zoom in, it have is mouth open like a dull and i hate.
my favorite unit (for usage) are greek torakitai oplites and pahlava deheb asawara.
my hated unit (for usage) are all cavalry units against peltast and javelimen.

Scroll up to the barb_crew_heavy entry. Replace the text with what you just copied.
The finished product:
It certainly isn't perfect, but it is better than the old blue things. I'd suggest trying something with a smaller shield because the botroas' shields bump into each other.

I certainly do! I try to balance my Roman armies as absolutely historical as i can get within the limitations of the game... Which most of the time means i can only use a stack of 16 units or so since if you use anymore than 2 hastati and principes then you don't have enough room for all your allied soldiers and whatnot, but it just adds to the challenge anyway.Originally Posted by Masy
But yeah the only time i ever use my triarii is when i have a legion far out in the field and it has to fight lots of battles and i can't get reinforcements up quick enough... Eventually triarii end up on the front line flanked by principes with mercenaries filling the roles of everything else.
My favourite EB Units
1. African Armoured Elephants/ Ptolemaic Basilikon Agemata
2. Kleruchoi Agemata/Kleruchoi Agemata Cavalry
3. Zdradha Pahlavans(sp?)

Swords Made of Letters - 1938. The war is looming in France - and Alexandre Reythier does not have much time left to protect his country. A novel set before the war.
A Painted Shield of Honour - 1313. Templar Knights in France are in grave danger. Can they be saved?
Mine have to be the Principes. In my armies, they do the bulk of the fighting, as illustrated by their experience chevrons, and they're well-equipped to do it. The Hastati usually get slaughtered, until their experience goes up, and the Triari usually spend most of their time shuffling on their feet and belching.
I thought about it and if i had to say right now my favorite would be the carthagians sacred band, cuz i beat the crap out of the romans when they came in waves againest my city. i didn't even have them in the city they came from outside, it was an epic battle. (i won)
the cheamonlean guards - eipros (sp all the way through this post :) )
and the royal squadrons with the successor states.
any version you said....
it´s the "gallic auxilia" in RTR (6.x).
just my 2 cents

I like the Seleukid cataphracted elephants. There are few units that can really stop them. They knock out all cavalry units and most phalanx or legionairies with a frontal charge! I haven't tried it with spartans or praetorian cohorts though.
Elite African Infantry - the Sacred Band might be technically more elite, but I love the flexibility and staying power those guys bring to the table - i once beat roughly 4000 egyptians with about 500 of them and some light support units - 700 men total (on medium, however)
After that, Samnite Light Infantry - they give my Macedonian and Carthaginian armies pseudo-Hastasti to guard the flanks, plus they look cool
