What your favorite unit in any version of rome total war

Mine have to be the Principes. In my armies, they do the bulk of the fighting, as illustrated by their experience chevrons, and they're well-equipped to do it. The Hastati usually get slaughtered, until their experience goes up, and the Triari usually spend most of their time shuffling on their feet and belching.

I thought about it and if i had to say right now my favorite would be the carthagians sacred band, cuz i beat the crap out of the romans when they came in waves againest my city. i didn't even have them in the city they came from outside, it was an epic battle. (i won)

the cheamonlean guards - eipros (sp all the way through this post :) )
and the royal squadrons with the successor states.

it´s the "gallic auxilia" in RTR (6.x).

I'm playing RTR Platinum at the moment, but all i can recruit in my northern Italy provinces are Gallic swordsmen, Gallic warband and Gallic light and heavy cavalry... Are there other Gallic units to be recruited in Gaul itself?

Gaesatae, hands down. One of my cities was conquered by TWO units of these gods on earth before...

So I'd say they are two-fold. Most hated and most loved

I like the Seleukid cataphracted elephants. There are few units that can really stop them. They knock out all cavalry units and most phalanx or legionairies with a frontal charge! I haven't tried it with spartans or praetorian cohorts though.
