Default Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30

Finally got delivered. I played this game for a few hours, I'm now on mission 5 I believe.

So far the game is very good. The animations of CoD 2 are better IMO, but the AI of this one is far superior. The tactical challenge of looking for cover for your men and firecting supressing fire, flanking positions, etc is very well done, even surprisingly well, with a very easy to grasp control system. My only issue here is the difficulty of aiming in close combat due to the lack of a crosshair on the screen, but even that can be mastered.

If you have played CoD2, and wish it was slower and more intelligent, this is the game. You can't just run up to an MG42 anymore just because you tossed a smoke grenade.

I liked it at first but it kinda hurts that the enemy doesn't really use the same tactics against you, it is always you advancing on their positions. You can enable the crosshair by the way, but it's more fun without it. Game makes a great first impression but it could be a whole lot more.

Still waiting for a WW2 game of the quality of Operation Flashpoint.

Thanks for posting your experiences on the game SwordsMaster, as I mentioned in another thread, I'm looking for a good - read: satisfying - WW2 game, shooter, strat, that doesn't even matter.

    I do have some questions;

How much can you take, as in bullets, is health measured more accurate in COD2 or in BIA. I mean in COD2 I don't think I ever died in the campaign, you could soak up as much as you liked as long as you took cover for 3 seconds. That was a feature I didn't really like.

Also, do enemy ( and allied soldiers alike ) die instantly if you hit them in their upper bodies ? No more shooting a german to the ground , then waiting until he looks up, tries to grab a gun, succeeds, then get's shot again ?

Doing that with practically every German is tedious, I mean, you don't try to sit up after you've been shot at point blank range with a Thompson !

I realize that might be viewed as a somewhat minor flaw, but I really detested it ( as I see it come back in every WW2 shooter ).

Well it really depends on the difficulty how much damage you can take, but generally it's not that hard to get yourself killed. Especially when there are no such things as health packs around.

It's definately a challenging game and I'm still stuck on the Hill 30 mission. Just too many damn Germans, especially when initially you're the one attacking.

No medpacks, and you can definitely get yourself killed. In my last game, I ran out of cover to cross the road without noticing an MG nest just 10 yards up the road, needless to say I was walking towards the light in a matter of seconds. I don't know exactly how many shots you can soak in, but I'm guessing about 4-5.

It is harder to get good shots overall. Even if you are actually aiming at the enemy, the rifle moves just too damn much (maybe even a little too much) to get real precision shots. I'm playing on Normal difficulty now, so I don't know what happens on higher difficulty levels, but on this one germans don't usually get up. If its down, its down, although sometimes it takes 2 shots.

You get to use tanks, though, not in first person, but as a part of your squad.

Yeah it can be quite a challenege and it is indeed a better game in temrs of AI than Cod. This is way more challenging and allows you to command you squad. quite fun, thumbs up

I must admit i did enjoy playing this game, but i found it got old pretty fast.

The AI rarely ever change tactics or show offensive initiative.

Plus the "set a base of fire" and then flank maneuver seems to be the only tactic you use in the game.

Bought it. Played it. Thought the game design was very good. Then threw the thing in the trash.

For me, the game was inexcusably ruined by the iron sight wobble. You're twenty feet from a guy, you bring up the iron sights on the Garand, and they start wobbling like you're having a seizure and a two triple expressos at the same time. You fire five or six shots at a close target and hit nothing but air. Really, really annoying.

Granted, sight wobble can be good in an FPS, but it was so ridiculously heavy in this game it just ruined the whole experience for me. Too bad, I liked the game otherwise.
