Default A lot of slowdowns recently

I'm noticing over the past week that for absolutely no reason at all the .Org will suddenly load up at such a speed it's like using dialup. There is a possibility of the problem being on my end, but i can find no reason for it. Either way, it's very annoying, especially when i make a long post, then find i can't post it because i keep timing out. Do you know how many posts i have to save in notepad and post at a later date?

Anyway, i was just wondering if the problem is happening to others, and if so what the cause is.

On my end it loads quite fast once it loads, but sometimes there is no server response at all and ten or twenty seconds later it loads at usual speed, like the server queues requests. I can live with it, though a faster response would always be a nice thing.

I've noticed the same, but it is not a recent thing. I've been experiencing it for what feels like months. It is not depended on the number of user on the Org, as it also happens when there are relativily few people online.

It's always been a bit slooow, but for the last week or so now, it's been slower than usual, even when there aren't many people online, like Ludens said. It was bizzare coming here on Sunday afternoon, when it's usually at it's fastest, and being reduced to 20 second loading times and the occasional timeout.

I also noticed slow response of ORG server. On colledge we have ultra fast connection (it's optic fiber connection) and still slow. Not to mention in my town where I use wireless...

Some forums are faster than others, I've noticed. For example the Mead Hall taskes forever to get into and move about in, whereas the Arena is faster. Been this way for a few months too.

    Yeah, I've noticed that too.

It's not so hard, though, more like a minor nuisance. Maybe a server problem?

Well I've noticed it started happening a lot more often once the arcade was brought online

I have no problem with the speed of loading in the Mead Hall. For me, the problem is mostly in the Entrance Hall, but that may have something to do with the amount of tiem I spent there.

Apparently I spoke too soon. I experienced the slowdowns in the Mead Hall this afternoon.

Forums will be even slower for the next hour, as I do backup and maintenance. Sorry.

Should be back up to a snail's pace by 2100 GMT today.

Any idea where these slowdowns come from?

Editing can take up to 2 minutes after clicking the edit button, but it seems to be small periods of time where it really lags, and longer periods where everything is fine...

Why would they need to be fast? They can beat any cavalry unit, so they don't need to outrun them & they're still faster than infantry

The last week has been abnormally slow, even for the Org. Today in particular is practically unusable.

The answer is simple my friends.

We simply need to delete the backroom
"I request permanent reassignment to the Gallic frontier. Nay, I demand reassignment. Perhaps it is improper to say so, but I refuse to fight against the Greeks or Macedonians any more. Give my command to another, for I cannot, I will not, lead an army into battle against a civilized nation so long as the Gauls survive. I am not the young man I once was, but I swear before Jupiter Optimus Maximus that I shall see a world without Gauls before I take my final breath."

I don't know about deleting the backroom, but yes it is very slow. I got the hugest lag loading the backroom or getting to a different location from the backroom.

If the OT forums are impairing performance, then IMO they should be pruned. I can't really see a downside to this: the Backroom has been pruned before, mostly without ill effect. AFAICT, topics over 3-4 weeks old are rarely worth keeping online, and Kukri can keep a local copy should anyone need something from the offline posts.

Even if they aren't impairing performance, it might be worthwhile pruning the Tavern every couple of months or so anyway. We are up to almost a million online posts now, a quarter of them in the Tavern. "Million post" forums are considered pretty large, even for dedicated hardware, and can be quite troublesome. Especially with M2:TW coming out in the coming months, which will probably have an accompanying influx of new and returning Members adding to the strain.

I dont go to the off topic parts of the forum...except in this case to follow a link to here about the lag.

I have had slow downs like everyone else. I have been so unable to post on occasion that Ive given up and posted on one of the other forums I follow.

Ive posted many thumbnails onto this forum. PbM Carthage and Selucid campaigns for instance. If people are looking through those now very long threads, which contain lots of big bitmaps from other posters, would that slow down the service ?
