I'm a bit baffled as to how petrol bombing Clackmannanshire Council,which so far as I know is in Scotland, is supposed to lead to the defeat of England, but there we go.

I really don't see the point in the minority of Scots who want independence. After all, wouldn't Scotland be worse off if it was independent? All the faffing around at the border and that stuff. Plus, we have enough small countries with no real power in Europe anyway, we don't need Scotland adding to it.

A Scottish Independence campaign might start, but it would never succeed.

That was then and this is now. 30 years have passed, and with it a lot of oil has passed. I would be surprised if we get another 30 years out of it, and if we do, what then? We shall no longer have oil, no notable resource, no way of supporting the various "left of centre" parties' policies, who would be in command.

I think there are about 10 years worth of oil and gas left in the North Sea. Trust me, the last thing Scotland would want is to become independent and responsible for one of the few remaining gas reserves on Earth. With a small military, they'd be easily over-run and have their North Sea reserves captured by some desperate country.

And what would they do once the oil runs out? Their economy would have to be supported by tourism, which there isn't enough of. The country would collapse within years.

Norway and Denmark has so far been able to protect their own oil, so I think Scotland would have a fair chance too
