What are your views on Chavs. Are they soley a phenomenom that occurs in the UK or are they world wide. Are they an invention of the media to put blame on their dissapointment of the youth? Are they good bad or anywhere in between? Have there always been Chavs? What defines a Chav? Please discuss.

They should bring back the death penalty just for them.
There are times I wish they’d just ban everything- baccy and beer, burgers and bangers, and all the rest- once and for all. Instead, they creep forward one apparently tiny step at a time. It’s like being executed with a bacon slicer.

No, they actually occur in other parts of Europe as well as the US where they're referred to as Trailer Trash, White Trash etc.
In the UK they're known as Chavs, Charvas, Scallys, Bazzas, Kevs etc. To save further lengthy explanation refer to the Wikipedia:

It takes effort to be a chav - work hard at being dumb, don't give a bent tuppence for anyone but yourself, even then try and get someone else to look after your interests for you (usually the State/taxpayer), belligerantly anti-social... and it's not a class thing - there's plenty of middle-class chavs, too, and working-class non-chavs. It's more an attitude problem than a social grouping, imho.

By reading this thread, chavs seem to be anti-social people, with an attitude problem. Not really people who wish they were born black.

Meh, I only care about them when they're loud. Usually if people are not doing something to another person, I don't care to evaluate their persona or even to consider them.

Agreed, I'd give anything to be on the firing squad of the chavs who attacked my brother a year ago
Some chavs can be harmless, some can even be alright people...you just get the majority who wear cheap-ass clothing and go round starting on others in their big groups, let me tell you. Get a chav alone and he's defenseless, trust me.

One of the main reasons people become a 'chav', is due to having either no male influence and only a mother so they have no discipline almost, or both og their parents were jsut lazy and put no discipline into the child at a young age.
All 'chavs' need a good size 13 up the backside, and also this is a reason why national service should be brought back, to try and sort them out befoer good people have to pay taxes for them to leech off.

Give a Chavster a whole bunch of cash and they'll piss it up the wall! Danniella was once a staple on Eastenders during the 90's and was a chavster earning a huge wedge of cash. So what did she do? Buy a house? Invest? Nope, she put a quarter of a million quids worth of coke up her nostrils until her septum rotted out! Desperately trying to pull herself together from the monster she once was, she has decided to get a surgeon to implant a couple of cantaloupe halves in her chest! Nice!!

Michael Carroll gets my vote with that picture.
He appears to think that gold plating himself is a sure-fire way of improving himself.
To quote: "You can take the scum out of the slum, but you can't take the slum out of the scum." Very apposite. Money has absolutely nothing to do with this. Look at Prescott: not quite there, but in terms of a selfish, ignorant grasping waste of space the only reason he's not is that he was born before the modern stereotype was invented.

Even if a group of people might not present the cream of the crop of a society, calling them "scum", asking for a "firing squad" or for "eugenics" goes a tad too far.
I am sure that there are forums out there where this kind of "discussion" is considered to be acceptable - this forum is not one of them.
