    Default Cross reach for mods

Are all mods tied to one forum, or are they able to function in other forums?

Of course mods are not present all the time, and in some forums (e.g. the Tavern) things can get heated.

If there is not a mod from the forum around, is there nothing that can be done to lock threads until one does come back? Or are all mods able to alter all forums, but have their own patch that they usually operate in?

Can things be altered so that in extremis any mod can be requested to act outside their domain?

The way things are designed is that the moderators each have their own patch. We can warn throughout all fora and lead by example as well.

Locking threads is just available to the staff in that particular forum. This to prevent miscommunications.

Kukri, Ser Clegane and Barocca can moderate all fora.

Assistant moderators can't warn but can do everything else in their own forum (and get support from senior moderators)

Moderators are poor souls who don't get paid enough for the job they do, feel free to donate. (PM me for the bankaccount # for the staff parties).

I would forward the view that the backroom requires somewhat more overlap of enforcement due to the nature of the topics. I understand that miscommunication is an issue, but if due reason is left at the bottom of the thead for the regular mods.

Perhaps if others can only lock threads to prevent threads being locked and unlocked by well meaning mods who are only passing.

Each patron is responsible for what he or she posts. Meaning that they'll have to deal with the consequences. Only in the case of patrons posting highly offensive pictures (porn, mutilation etc) can I imagine a need for direct interference.

Otherwise the posts will simply be deleted and the patrons be warned, it usually isn't the case that posts inflict such mental damage that inmediate action is needed.

It is not as bad has it has been, however the issue that rory is bringing up does indeed happen.

Sometimes when reading posts - and one notices a flame war is developing it would be good thing to PM a moderator that is on-line so that the thread can be closed quickly to allow the discussion to calm down before a true fight developes.

But if I am reading things correctly - I think moderators alreadly have that ability all it takes is a concerned patron to PM an online moderator to accomplish such a thing.

Edit: We should police ourselves of any personal attacks prior to posting (yes indeed sometimes it is very hard to do so when in the middle of the discussion) and upon failing that the community should police itself by not responding to the provation in the offending post and allowing the moderators to clear up the issue.

But what the hell, sometimes it just fun to poke the fire and help it spread (we are all guilty of doing this from time to time)

I have been added to the Backroom recently... obviously you guys must have upset someone important either Gawd or Dorkins...

The reason that we minimise mods on anyone forum is that it makes it a lot easier to track who has made changes. It is also a form of security in that if a single mods account was compromised only a portion of the forums would be endangered.

It is true that the backroom needs more attention as it gets a lot of traffic. However it is not the best place to learn the ropes. My point of view is to let the patrons mod themselves and be adult enough to take the consequences of their choices. I have learned a new habit of a zero point warning (I thought they came in 6 packs) someone to edit rather just hack in slash.

However I do expect the backroom to have a lot more witty, teasing and cutting remarks.

So Redleg-sama ready to become a Backroom Moderator yet?

Redleg would be an excellent choice for Mod if he were to accept it. Rarely do I read such balanced posts.
