I don't know how to get these. I've seen the AI have them in the campaign, so I know it's possible. Can someone fill me in?

I play as the Egyptian faction.
I love using the Egyptian generals.
Thay are all chariot archers with lots of hit points. A very powerful unit provided you dont try to use them as bulldozers...they have very weak defense.
You cannot get them as a Roman unless you bribe an egyptian leader. But then he will convert to a Roman style general unit which sort of defeats what you want.
A small chariot based army can take on a large enemy. Take out their cavalry, artillery, missiles then run the enemy infantry into exhaustion before killing them.

I don't think I quite understand what you are saying. The only way to get Egyptian chariot generals is by playing with the Egyptians. IIRC they get upgraded to cavalry if one of the Roman factions triggers the Marian reforms (because the Egyptians do have a cavalry general unit). In vanilla, Egyptians Generals come with a bodyguard unit of chariot archers.Originally Posted by roman pleb
However, some RTW mods have Egyptian cav generals, most notably the Extended Greek Mod.
Camels will defeat cavalry anyday.
Abandon all hope.
After the Marian Reforms, your generals automatically turn into Cavalry units.Originally Posted by roman pleb

Gosh. Are you saying that in my Egyptian Imperial campaign that my Chariot archer type generals will all turn into cavalry type generals once the AI Romans have a Marius event ?
If so I beeter get my skates on and capture Patavium to stop that happening.

I think when you play as a non-Roman, your bodygaurds don't update until YOU build an imperial palace somewhere. Thats why it says in the description of an Imperial Palace, "Improved Gerneral's Bodygaurds"
It doesn't matter when the AI gets one, just when you do.
Ok, I think I have it now. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my question. thanks everybody.
I draft my previous answer, you're absolutely right. (Things just got mixed up on me with all the Marian talk)Originally Posted by Glaucus
