Thread: Rome Total War: Alexander = hardcode change?
Byzantine Emperor 20:21 06-19-2006
Looking around I found this in the descr_strat in the area for Alexander:
Code:
portrait alexander, strat_model ALEX_alexander, battle_model ALEX_alexander_general_battle
And this under the Persia faction area:
Code:
ai_do_not_attack_faction gauls
What could this mean?

This means that Alexander is not just 'a waste of money' as some people like to describe it...

It also means that Heroes could be added into games, and that characters could have completely different portraits, however, as for 'unborn' generals, i think this would cause issues, as you would have to write a script to make generals born in the future look different.

Also, with the second line, it seems this is a stronger version of an alliance, a faction that wouldnt attack a faction...

I am excited about this, but i cannot get alexander yet as i need my dad's credit card, and he is especially grumpy when it comes to giving out details on the net.

If that function remains exclusive to Alexander and not made available to RTW and BI, then it's not a great deal of use in many cases. Expecting players to buy another expansion just because your mod will make use of an exclusive bit of code in it, isn't great for the community as a whole. But it would be one way for CA to justify releasing expansions if modders help create a market for it.

I still think many of these kind of modding opportunities (and more) should have been available from the beginning. Aside from some scripting (which isn't always ideal) modding potential in RTW has been quite limited in many respects.

Please remember what happened with 1.5. CA carted in a whole load of new features into RTW that were previously only available in BI. They could still do this with Alexander, who knows?

That's why the sentence started with, 'If'.

It's true what Silver Rusher said, but also 1.5 brought many other problems to modding.

Look at the Recruitment system in EB, that's one of the best examples.
