    Default Singing the World Cup!!

In the spirit of the greatest sports event in the whole history of humanity, I'd like ask for those songs that identify your national team or your nation itself, anthems are in why not (I always liked to know what the "Marseillaise" said, and all those songs that the english sing in the matches). I'll start by posting several of them, remember that it's not restricted the the football team only, it only has to identify your country, and please translate it into english so everyone can know the meaning. Thanks.

The first one is the anthem. This is only the popular version, the first one is very long and has some allussions to Spain that might be inproper (:shurg:).
    Himno Nacional Argentino.
    Oíd mortales el grito sagrado
    Libertad, Libertad, Libertad,
oíd el ruido de rotas cadenas
ved en trono a la noble igualdad.

    Ya su trono dignísimo abrieron
    las Provincias unidas del Sud,
y los libres del mundo responden
    al gran Pueblo Argentino Salud.

    Sean eternos los laureles
    que supimos conseguir
    coronados de gloria vivamos,
    o juremos con gloria morir.

    Translated (without rhyme of course):
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Hear mortals the holy scream
    freedom, freedom, freedom,
Hear the sound of broken chains
see the throne of noble equality.

The digniful throne has been opened
by the united provinces of the South,
and the free people of the world praise
health to the great people of Argentina.

    Be eternal the laurels
    that we won
Shall we live crowned on glory,
or swear to die with glory.

This song isn't sang by the fans in any place but a lot of people, me included, feel identified by its letter. The band is called "Bersuit Bergarabat". Careful, not everything in the song makes us proud...
La Argentinidad al Palo (wich could be translated as "Ultimate argentinity")
    La calle más larga,
    el río más ancho,
las minas más lindas del mundo...
    El dulce de leche,
    el gran colectivo,
    alpargatas, soda y alfajores...
    Las huellas digitales,
    los dibujos animados,
    las jeringas descartables,
    la birome...
    La transfusión sanguínea,
el seis a cero a perú,
    y muchas otras cosas más...

    La argentinidad al palo...
    la argentinidad al palo...

    Gigantes como el Obelisco,
    campeones de fútbol,
    boxeo y hockey.
    Locatti, Barreda,
    Monzón y Cordera
    también, matan por amor.
    Tanos, gallegos, judíos,
    criollos, polacos, indios, negros,
    cabecitas... pero con pedigree francés
    somos de un lugar
santo y profano a la vez,
    mixtura de alta combustión

    la argentinidad al palo...
    la argentinidad al palo...

    Diseminados, y en franca expansión,
hoy nos espera el mundo entero,
no es para menos la coronación,
brota el encanto del suelo argento.
    ¡Vamo´...! ¡Vamo´...!

¡Y no me vengan con cuentos chinos!
Que El Che, Gardel y Maradona
    son los number one,
    como también lo soy yo,
    y argentinos
    ¡gracias a Dios!

    (Estribillo)
    Diarieros:
También Videla y el mundial 78
    Spadone y la leche adulterada
Manzano se hizo la cirugía del orto
    Descuartizan vacas en el norte.
Y siguen los nariguetazos en el Congreso
    Galtieri y "los estamos esperando".
    Más desnutridos
    En el "Granero del mundo".
    Cayó la Fundación Padre Bufarra.
Alfonsín con "la casa está en orden"
"El que apuesta al dólar pierde",
    dijo el Ministro.
También Menem y su primer inmundo
Cavallo y sus lágrimas de cocodrillo.
    Cinco presidentes en una semana.
    Encontraron al muñeco de Yabrán
con un tiro en la cabeza.
De La Rúa con su tímida boludez...

Pero... ¿qué me vienen a coger

    (Estribillo)
    ¡Al palo! ¡Al palo! ¡Al palo!

    Translated:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    The longest street,
    the widest river,
the most beatiful chicks of the world...
The "dulce de leche" (it's like sweet milk)
    the great bus
rope sandals, sode and "alfajores"... (a kind of biscuit)
    the fingerprints,
    the animated cartoons,
    the expendable syringe,
    the pen,
    the blood transfusion,
    the six-cero against Peru,
y muchas otras cosas más... and many other things.

    La argentinidad al palo...
    la argentinidad al palo...

    Giants like the Obelisc,
    champions of football,
    box and hockey.
    Locatti, Barreda,
Monzón y Cordera (all famous boxers)
    also kill for love.
Tanos (italians), gallegos (spanish in general), jews,
creoles, polish, indians, "negros" (nigros, it has no bad connotations here)
"cabecitas" (often, drunk)... but with french pedigree
    Where are from a place
holy and profane at the time,
    mixture of high combustion.

    La argentinidad al palo...
    la argentinidad al palo...

    Diseminated and in frank expansion,
    the entire world awaits now,
the crowning is not something trivial,
the song of the outsiders soil rises.
    Come on...! Come on...!

And don't come with tales to me!
That El Che, Gardel and Maradona
    are the number one
    as I'm
    and argentinians
    thanks to God!

(Journeymans telling, not singing in this part)
Also Videla and the 78 World Cup
    Spadone and the adultered milk
    Manzano and his ass surgery
Cows carved up at the north.
And the drogadiction (figurative) in the Congress continues
    Galtieri and "we're waiting"
    More ill-fed
    in the "world's granary".
    The father Bufarra's Foundation fell
Alfonsin and "the house is in order"
"Who bets for the dollars loses"
    told the Minister.
And also Menem and his first "dirt" (this loses sense in the translation)
    Cavallo and his lizard tears.
    Five presidents in a week.
They found the doll of Yabran.
con un tiro en la cabeza. with a shot in the head
    De La Rua's coward bullshit...

But... don't come back to ****
me with the your dead ****! (again loses sense in the translation, but I think you can catch it this time)
    I've it bigger than yours!
I **** the morons as yourself
    standing on my feet.
    When you go,
I already went and came back... Like forty times!
Why do you want me to let it pass,
    if they're ******* morons?
    You're all a bunch of *** ** * *****!
This country is full of thieves!

    I?... Argentinian!

As the shot at the heart
    of Favaloro.

    From extasis to agony
    our historial oscillates.
We can be the best, and the worst too,
    with the same ease.

    (Choir)
¡Al palo! ¡Al palo! ¡Al palo! (Again cannot be translated properly).

And then some short songs at the matches:
Like: Volveremo', volveremo', volveremos otra vez, volveremo' a ser campeones como en el ochenta y seis. (We'll come back x2, we'll come back again, we'll be champions again like in the '86).
Or: Brasilero, brasilero, que amargado se te ve, Maradona es más grande es más grande que Pelé (Brazilian, brazilian, how bad do you look, Maradona is better, is better than Pele).

As I remember more I'll post them.

"Three Lions" by The Lightning Seeds and Baddiel and Skinner

Hands down the best Football song ever
    When I was a child
    I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
    The child is grown,
    The dream is gone.
    I have become comfortably numb...

Football's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Football's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming,
Three Lions on a shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming...

Repeat ad inifinitum (it's the best wold cup song ever). On a side note, how rubbish is the official England footie song for 2006?

And Soulforged, much as I hate congratulating you Argies on anything, that's an awesome national anthem you have there.

EDIT - lolz, beaten to it

Thanks. That's due to a couple of great creators, Vicente López y Planes and Blas Parera. I'd like to know yours too.

@Fragony: Thanks!! But you might as well translate it to english, as much as I'd like to I cannot understand dutch.

@EA: That's a funny song there . Do you people have anything against us? I've one against the English, wich is of course: "El que no salta es un inglés" (repeated many times) wich means that "He who doesn't jump is an english man". The song varies depending on the team we play, but generally it's against the english honouring that old rivalry.

@BKS: Thanks for not closing the thread. I thought that with all those profanities in my post the thread was in danger.

My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation.

I believe that the media has connected "Vertigo" by U2 with the US National Team. Everytime I see a special report about them or something, they always play that song, with clips from both U2 singing it and some of the highlights wehave. Mostly McBride bleeding and US players fouling Italians (and getting the red too.) since thats about all we did this WC. Although I must say that we did score our first goal of the WC today.
